New Annual Passholder Park Reservation Rules for Magic Kingdom

Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’re an Annual Passholder, you’ve probably gotten used to the post-2 PM freedom. Just stroll into EPCOT or Magic Kingdom for a snack, fireworks, or a quick ride without worrying about reservations. That’s changing — at least for a little while — and it’s all because of the upcoming Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away nighttime parade.

Let’s break down exactly what’s changing, why it matters, and how to plan around it.

Why the Rule Changed: Disney Starlight Is Coming

The Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade officially debuts on July 20, 2025. It’s the first all-new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom in years — and fans are hyped.

The parade will light up Frontierland, Liberty Square, the hub in front of Cinderella Castle, and flow all the way down Main Street, U.S.A. Crowds are expected to be intense, especially during the first few weeks.

Because of this demand, Disney is temporarily changing the Park Reservation rules just for Magic Kingdom and just for Annual Passholders. No end date has been announced yet.

What’s Actually Changing for Passholders?

If you’re used to dropping into Magic Kingdom after 2 PM on a whim, that’s paused. Here’s the new policy starting July 20, 2025:

  • Annual Passholders must have a Park Reservation to enter Magic Kingdom — all day, every day.
  • This includes after 2 PM, which was previously reservation-free.
  • The other three parks (EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom) are unaffected — you can still enter those after 2 PM without a reservation.
  • Park Reservations are still limited and subject to availability.
  • Blockout dates still apply as usual.

What Is a Park Reservation, Again?

Disney uses a system called Park Pass to manage attendance. If your ticket type requires a reservation, you must book a park for the day in advance using the My Disney Experience app or website.

These ticket types do require a reservation:

  • Annual Passes
  • Florida Resident Summer Magic Ticket
  • Florida Resident Discover Disney Ticket
  • Student group tickets
  • Sports and convention tickets
  • Disney Military Salute Tickets
  • Other specialized admission types

If you have one of these, always check availability before heading to the parks. Disney can run out of Park Passes — especially now with big events like Disney Starlight.

Planning Tips for Passholders During This Temporary Rule

Here’s how to work around the new Annual Passholder Park Reservation rules:

1. Lock in your Magic Kingdom days early.
If you’re planning to see Disney Starlight, don’t wait — book that Park Pass now. Popular nights will fill fast, especially weekends and holidays.

2. Use other parks for last-minute visits.
EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom are still available after 2 PM without reservations. Great for spontaneous snack runs or low-key evenings.

3. Check Park Pass availability often.
Things change. Guests cancel. More availability can open up day-of or the night before — so refresh that calendar regularly.

4. Expect possible Park Hopping changes.
Right now, you can still hop to another park after 2 PM — but if crowd levels spike, Disney may adjust this. Keep an eye on official updates.

Final Thoughts

This is not a surprising move by Disney — crowd control is key, and Disney Starlight is shaping up to be a massive draw. But it does mean Annual Passholders lose a bit of flexibility at Magic Kingdom, at least temporarily.

The good news? You can still enjoy last-minute park time at the other three parks. Just plan ahead if Magic Kingdom is your must-do.

Make those reservations, check the app often, and enjoy the show — this parade is going to be a big one.
