Hey Disney Vacationers! Big news for Magic Kingdom fans: starting July 20, the new nighttime parade Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away officially launches. This is the return of a nighttime parade at Walt Disney World — and it’s coming with more than just floats. Think original music, high-tech storytelling, exclusive merch, and snacks designed just for this event.

Let’s break down all the confirmed details now that the Disney Starlight opening date is set.

Parade Start Date and Theme

The official debut of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away is July 20 at the Magic Kingdom. This brand-new nighttime parade is built from the ground up with an original theme song, creative float technology, and a finale packed with Disney characters across multiple generations of animation.

Show Director Tara Anderson described the parade’s musical identity as something built to “embody all the majestic and fantasy feelings” of seeing a parade with Cinderella Castle in the background. That new theme also contains subtle nods to classic Disney Parks music — a fun Easter egg for longtime fans.

Confirmed Parade Units

Here’s the confirmed order of floats Disney has shared so far. Each one is designed to blend lighting and movement into a fully immersive nighttime experience.

• The Blue Fairy (Opening Float)
• Peter Pan and Wendy
• Asha from Wish
• The Madrigal Family from Encanto (Mirabel, Isabela, and Bruno)
• Elsa from Frozen
• Disney Royals: Aurora & Prince Phillip, Tiana & Naveen, Belle & Beast, Cinderella & Prince Charming
• Miguel and Pepita from Coco
• Moana, with Pua, HeiHei, and a manta ray for Gramma Tala
• Finale Float featuring Mickey & Friends: Goofy, Pluto, Daisy, Donald, Dopey, Snow White, Flynn Rider, Rapunzel, Aladdin, Jasmine, Mickey, and Minnie

More characters are expected to join in future announcements.

Parade Route and Viewing Areas

The Disney Starlight parade will follow the traditional Magic Kingdom nighttime route in reverse. It starts by the Main Street Fire Station, then heads down Mains Street USA, circles the hub in front of Cinderella Castle, moves into Libery Square, and through Frontierland.

Ideal viewing areas include:

• The Liberty Square bridge for a quieter, scenic option
• The hub near Cinderella Castle for that iconic Disney backdrop
• The top of Main Street near the Emporium if you’re planning a quick park exit afterward

This reverse parade route will be used for the foreseeable future, as it helps with overall guest flow at the end of the night.

How Often Will It Run?

While Disney has confirmed the nightly schedule, there be two performances per night — one earlier in the evening and another after the Happily Ever After fireworks. This double-show format gives families and late-night guests more flexibility to fit the parade into their day. The times will be:

• 9 pm
• 11 pm

This two-showings model is the same format Disney World has used for the special ticket event parades, as well as for Spectro-Magic and the Main Street Electric Light Parade.

Please note, Disney Starlight will not be available on evenings Magic Kingdom hosts Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. And remember, this is an outdoor parade and is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. 

Float Design and Lighting Technology

The floats in Disney Starlight are more than scenic displays — they’re dynamic stages that use lighting, motion, and video to tell each character’s story. The Blue Fairy’s float is built entirely from points of light, and the Encanto unit features curved LED panels to create real-time animated movement.

Even the costumes are synchronized with lighting and music cues. The choreography, created by Cindy Wilson, draws directly from each film’s energy and dance style. Every move is timed to the music and float animation to create a unified, electric performance.

Merchandise and Exclusive Snacks

To celebrate the launch, Disney is releasing a line of Starlight merchandise, including:

• Logo tee shirts
• Light-up Mickey ears
• Collector pins and blankets
• A light-up bubble wand that interacts with parade lighting

Available starting July 20, these items will be sold throughout Magic Kingdom, with prime displays expected near the Emporium and Main Street hub.

Also debuting that night: the Starlight Popcorn Mix, available exclusively at the Main Street Confectionary. This sweet-and-colorful treat includes Bubble Gum and Blue Raspberry candy popcorn, M&M’s Milk Chocolate Candies, mini-marshmallows, and a white chocolate drizzle.

Accessibility Notes

Disney will offer designated viewing areas for guests with disabilities and those using the Disability Access Service (DAS). These zones are generally located along the route in Frontierland, Liberty Square, and the hub area. Cast Members will begin assisting guests into these zones around 45-60 minutes before the parade starts.

Guests using mobility devices, wheelchairs, or DAS should ask a nearby Cast Member where the closest designated viewing space is located when they arrive.

Tips for Watching the Parade

To help you get the most out of your Disney Starlight experience, here are a few practical planning tips:

• If you want front-row views, arrive 45–60 minutes early. The hub area fills up quickly.
  • Pro Tip: If you plan on watching the parade within the first couple of weeks, I would recommend finding your spot at least 75 minutes prior to the parade.
• Watching the second parade after fireworks usually means thinner crowds — and shorter wait times during the first show.
• Pair the parade with a snack run or mobile order pickup beforehand so you’re not rushing.
• Consider a spot on Main Street if you want to head for the exit after the parade ends.
• Bring a small towel, cushion, or blanket for comfort if you’re sitting curbside early.
