Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Closing for Refurbishment in November

Tiana's Bayou Adventure Closing for Refurbishment

Its first refurbishment closure ever, and Disney hasn’t said how long it lasts. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom closes starting Monday, November 2, 2026, according to the refurbishment calendar in My Disney Experience.

Two adjacent locations close with it: Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s Bayou General.

Quick Summary

  • Closure begins November 2, 2026
  • No reopening date listed
  • Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s Bayou General also close
  • Disney has not given a reason
  • It’s the ride’s first refurbishment closure since opening in summer 2024
  • The attraction has had ongoing animatronic issues

What We Know

Disney has not given a reason for the closure, and there is no listed reopening date yet. This will be the ride’s first refurbishment closure since it opened in summer 2024.

Why a Closure Was Always Coming

Water rides take a beating in Florida’s heat and humidity.

Splash Mountain — the log flume that operated in this exact spot for around 30 years — closed for maintenance on a near-annual basis. Mechanical systems, water treatment, and boat troughs all need regular attention to keep a ride like this running.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure uses similar ride mechanics to its predecessor, so a refurbishment along these lines isn’t unusual.

The timing is roughly right, too. Two and a bit years of continuous operation on a flume in Central Florida is a normal interval before a proper teardown.

So the closure itself isn’t a story. The missing reopening date is.

The Animatronic Problem

Here’s the part worth paying attention to.

The ride has had ongoing issues with its Audio-Animatronics figures since opening. Several of the main figures throughout the attraction have had periods of downtime or reduced movement. This closure could give Disney a chance to address those problems alongside routine ride system maintenance.

Why That Matters More Than It Sounds

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was built around its animatronics in a way Splash Mountain wasn’t.

Splash Mountain’s figures were largely reused from America Sings — a 1974 attraction — and the ride’s appeal rested heavily on the drop and the finale scene. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was pitched on the quality of its new figures, particularly Tiana herself, and the widely publicised claim that it featured some of Disney’s most advanced animatronics.

A headline attraction whose headline feature keeps breaking is a real problem, and one fans have documented consistently since 2024. Fixing them properly would be a substantially bigger job than a routine flume refurbishment — which may explain why Disney hasn’t committed to a reopening date.

That’s inference, not confirmation. Disney has said nothing about scope.

The Shops Closing Too

Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s Bayou General shut down during the closure. That’s a meaningful loss of retail in Frontierland, and it compounds with everything else happening in that corner of the park right now.

The Frontierland Context

November is going to be a difficult month on that side of Magic Kingdom, and this doesn’t land in isolation.

The Walt Disney World Railroad closes September 28 through October 29 — and has been running only as a shuttle since July 2025, skipping Frontierland entirely because of ongoing construction.

Piston Peak National Park is under construction in Frontierland, with balloon tests recently run to confirm building heights against Big Thunder Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Villains Land is also coming to this side of the park.

So from November 2, Frontierland guests lose a headline attraction, two shops, and have a railroad that skips the land entirely. Big Thunder Mountain carries a lot of weight in that scenario.

About Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced Splash Mountain, which closed permanently in January 2023. Disney announced the retheme in June 2020, moving the attraction’s story from Song of the South to the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. The ride sends guests through the bayou with Princess Tiana and Louis the alligator, searching for critter musicians.

It opened in summer 2024 after a roughly 18-month closure for the conversion.

What to Do

If Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is on your must-ride list, go before November 2.

With no reopening date announced, treat it as unavailable for the rest of 2026 and plan accordingly. Refurbishments without published end dates routinely run longer than guests expect.

Watch My Disney Experience for a reopening date to appear. Disney typically adds one once the scope is settled, and that’s the first real signal of how long this will take.

Expect Big Thunder Mountain waits to increase from early November as Frontierland’s remaining headliner absorbs the demand.

The Bottom Line

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes for refurbishment from November 2, 2026, along with Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s Bayou General. No reason has been given and no reopening date is listed.

It’s the attraction’s first closure since opening in summer 2024. Water rides in Florida need regular maintenance — Splash Mountain closed nearly annually — but the ride’s persistent animatronic problems make the scope harder to predict.

Ride it before November 2 if it matters to you.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
