Reimagined Test Track Opening Date

Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’re a fan of EPCOT like I am, you’ve probably been wondering: when is the reimagined Test Track opening?

Well, we’ve finally got an answer. Disney has confirmed that the newly reimagined Test Track opening date is July 22, 2025. That’s right—after more than a year behind construction walls, one of EPCOT’s most iconic attractions is getting ready to hit the gas again. And from what we’ve seen so far, it’s going to feel both fresh and nostalgic at the same time.

Let’s break it all down.

A Quick History Lap: Test Track’s Evolution

If you’ve been visiting EPCOT for a while, you know Test Track has gone through a few changes. Originally opening in 1999, the first version focused heavily on real-world automotive testing. It felt like you were actually inside a GM proving ground, slamming brakes and dodging environmental hazards.

Then came the 2012 version, which introduced a sleek, digital design studio overlay. Guests could create their own virtual vehicle and see how it performed in categories like efficiency and power. While cool in theory, it lost some of the raw thrill that made the original such a hit.

Now, in 2025, Disney and General Motors are launching what looks to be a balance between tech-forward storytelling and that same emotional thrill that fans have been craving.

What’s New in the Reimagined Test Track?

Disney has revealed a lot of upgrades—and these aren’t just cosmetic. The entire attraction is being rethought from the ground up to celebrate the past, present, and future of mobility.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Ride Vehicles: Completely redesigned with darker, more modern tones, sleeker profiles, and updated lighting and seating. Think research lab meets concept car.
  • New Queue Experience: Six distinct areas highlighting mobility innovations and the people who made them happen. More storytelling, less waiting.
  • Updated Show Scenes: Scenes will focus on personalization, in-car technology, and how we emotionally connect with our cars.
  • High-Speed Finale: Yes—it’s still there! That 60+ MPH finale on the outdoor track remains, now surrounded by enhanced visuals to fit the new story.
  • New Soundtrack: A custom musical score will accompany the ride, making it feel more cinematic.
  • Immersive Technology Effects: One scene will show how a vehicle “sees” the road through sensors and cameras—using over 29,000 points of light. Seriously, that’s some next-level Imagineering.

Final Touches Already Underway

Construction is wrapping up fast.

Here’s what we’ve seen in the last few weeks:

  • The new Test Track marquee is in place.
  • Ride vehicles have been spotted testing on the track.
  • Construction walls are down, which is always a good sign.
  • The old gift shop has been renamed Test Track Gear Shop to reflect the updated branding.

This means previews could be coming soon—and if you’re a Passholder or DVC Member, now’s the time to start watching your email.

Annual Passholder Previews Coming

Disney confirmed that preview opportunities are coming for Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, Cast Members, Golden Oak residents, and Club 33 Members.

According to the initial schedule, Cast Member previews will run from June 27 through July 10. These early previews are typically the first step in the final testing and adjustment phase, often referred to as “Cast Testing,” and help operations teams fine-tune the attraction before it opens to the public.

This means Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club Members, Golden Oak residents, and Club 33 Members will have previews on select days between July 11 and July 21. The actual dates have not yet been announced.

Preview Format Likely to Follow Recent Model

While the format for Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club Members, Golden Oak residents, and Club 33 Members type previews has not been officially announced, it may follow the structure used for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024. That preview required guests to:

  • Hold a valid park reservation
  • Join a virtual queue through the My Disney Experience app
  • Join at one of two times: 7:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m., depending on availability

So if you’re planning to attend one of these preview days, get ready to set your alarm and keep that phone nearby.

Here’s what Disney had to say:

“Just like you always check your mirrors when you get behind the wheel, we encourage you to keep an eye out for more information to share in the coming weeks about special previews…”

Reimagined Test Track Opening Date

Why the Opening Date Matters

Opening on July 22, 2025, might seem random at first. But there’s strategy behind it.

Just two days earlier—on July 20—Disney will debut a brand-new nighttime parade called Disney Starlight at Magic Kingdom. By timing Test Track’s return right after, Disney is doing two things:

  1. Spreading Out the Crowds: With more guests skipping park hoppers these days, Disney is creating demand at both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. That’s a smart way to keep crowds balanced.
  2. Boosting Summer Attendance: Let’s be real—2025 summer travel is lighter than usual. Launching two big experiences in the same week is Disney’s way of giving vacationers a reason to book last-minute trips. And with hotel promotions already out, they’re making it tempting.

The Bigger EPCOT Picture

This new version of Test Track feels much more in line with the updated World Discovery theme. It celebrates real innovation, tech-forward storytelling, and the human experience of motion—without losing the speed.

Between Guardians, Space 220, and now the reimagined Test Track, World Discovery is almost fully built out and living up to its name. The big question now, is what does the future hold for Mission Space?

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth the Hype?

If you’re a thrill ride fan, a tech nerd, or someone who just loves Disney storytelling—you’re going to want to ride the reimagined Test Track as soon as it opens.

July 22, 2025, is the official date. But if you’re a Passholder or part of Disney’s inner circles, your chance might come even sooner.

We’ll keep you updated with preview dates, strategy guides, and all the behind-the-scenes details. But for now, buckle up—Test Track 3.0 is almost ready to roll.
