Rain won’t cancel the party. Thunder and lightning might cancel the parade. Disney has published a weather policy page in the My Disney Experience app for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2026, and it’s worth reading before your party night.
The MNSSHP 2026 rain policy confirms the party continues during most inclement weather, but outdoor entertainment and some attractions are subject to change.
Here’s the full policy and what it means in practice.
Quick Summary
- The party continues during most inclement weather; rain alone won’t cancel it
- Thunder and lightning affect attractions and outdoor entertainment
- The parade and fireworks are subject to change or cancellation
- Trick-or-Treat Trails remain available even during inclement weather
- Some Magic Kingdom attractions will not operate during storms
- Complimentary treat bags and candy collection continue rain or shine
Why This Matters in August and September
At this time of year, late-evening thunderstorms are a regular occurrence in Central Florida, and over the past few years several party nights have seen entertainment disrupted or cut short due to weather.
With MNSSHP 2026 opening August 7 — the earliest start in the event’s history — a larger share of party nights than usual fall in peak storm season.
That’s the practical context for this policy. A party running from early August means dozens of nights during the wettest, most electrically active stretch of the Florida year.
Disney’s Full Published Weather Policy
“Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will continue in the event of most inclement weather. If Magic Kingdom park is experiencing rain, thunder or lightning, please consider the following:
Attractions — Some Magic Kingdom park attractions will not be operational during inclement weather. Please check the Attractions page to see which experiences are available and to check their wait times. Please check with a Cast Member for more information on how inclement weather may impact attractions and entertainment offerings.
Wondering how to spend your time during an intermittent rainstorm? Trick-or-Treat Trails throughout the park will remain available even in the event of inclement weather. We also recommend shopping at the Emporium or grabbing a bite to eat at one of our quick-service locations while you wait for the rain to pass.
Important Information — Entertainment offerings, showtimes, attractions and experiences are subject to change without notice. Inclement weather conditions may affect outdoor entertainment.”
What This Means in Practice
Attractions. Some Magic Kingdom attractions will not operate during inclement weather. Check the Attractions page in the My Disney Experience app for current availability and wait times.
In practice, outdoor and elevated attractions go down first — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, the PeopleMover, Dumbo, and the railroad are typical early closures during lightning.
Entertainment. Outdoor entertainment including the parade and fireworks is subject to change or cancellation. If a storm rolls in at the wrong time, there’s no guarantee the Boo-to-You Parade or Not-So-Spooky Spectacular will run as scheduled.
Trick-or-Treat Trails. These remain available even during inclement weather, so candy collection continues rain or shine.
That last point is the most useful thing in the policy. The candy doesn’t stop. If you’re at the party primarily for trick-or-treating with kids, weather is a much smaller problem than it looks.
How to Make the Most of a Rainy Night
Disney suggests a few ways to spend your time if a storm passes through:
- Continue trick-or-treating along the candy trails throughout the park
- Shop at the Emporium on Main Street
- Grab a bite at one of the many quick-service locations open during the party
Indoor Options Worth Knowing
Beyond Disney’s suggestions, Magic Kingdom has genuine indoor capacity if you know where to look:
- Mickey’s PhilharMagic — a full theater show, and a trick-or-treat location this year
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor — indoor, seated, and also a candy stop
- Enchanted Tiki Room — indoor and a trick-or-treat stop
- Carousel of Progress — the most underrated storm shelter at Magic Kingdom
- The Hall of Presidents — long, air conditioned, and almost never crowded
- Haunted Mansion — largely indoors and thematically perfect for the night
Note how many of those double as trick-or-treat locations this year. A storm route through PhilharMagic, Laugh Floor, and the Tiki Room collects candy while staying dry.
Tips for Planning Around the Weather
If the fireworks or parade are your top priority, keeping an eye on the forecast before your party night is a good idea.
The most common pattern in August and September is afternoon storms that clear by early evening — but late-arriving storms can still affect entertainment later in the night.
If weather looks poor later in the night, prioritize entertainment earlier in the evening.
That’s the single most actionable piece of guidance here. The standard advice is to skip the 8:15pm parade for the less crowded 11:15pm showing. On a night with a bad late forecast, invert that — take the early parade, because the late one may not happen.
Other Practical Notes
- Bring a poncho, not an umbrella. Umbrellas are miserable in crowds and block sightlines.
- Party tickets are generally non-refundable for weather. Check your specific terms.
- Use your 4pm entry. If storms are forecast for later, front-load your evening.
- Watch the app. Attraction availability updates live during weather events.
The Bottom Line
The MNSSHP 2026 rain policy confirms the party continues through most inclement weather, with rain alone not cancelling the event. Thunder and lightning can close attractions and disrupt or cancel the parade and fireworks.
Trick-or-Treat Trails stay open regardless, so candy collection continues rain or shine.
Check the forecast, pack a poncho, and if the late-night outlook is bad, take the early parade rather than gambling on the 11:15pm showing.
