Disney Imagineering is keeping the bathroom jokes alive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Scaffolding has come down around the new Monstropolis restrooms, and you can now get a clear look at the nearly finished facade from inside the park. The big brick lettering reads “Try Our Cans.”
If you remember Gonzo’s Royal Flush from the area’s Muppets days, you’ll appreciate the continuity. Here’s a look at the new building and where Monstropolis stands.
Quick Summary
- Scaffolding has come down around the Monstropolis restrooms at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
- The facade features large lettering reading “Try Our Cans,” a play on “can” as slang for a toilet.
- The restrooms that stood here before were themed as Gonzo’s Royal Flush.
- The building has a spiked, riveted, monster-inspired look on a classic brick structure.
- Concrete columns in front are part of the Monstropolis entry gateway.
- Monstropolis opens in phases starting in 2027.
The Monstropolis Restrooms Facade Is Revealed
With the scaffolding gone, the new restrooms are easy to spot from inside the park. The facade is nearly finished, and the big “Try Our Cans” lettering on the brick is the first thing you’ll notice.
It’s a small building, but it’s one of the first finished-looking pieces of Monstropolis guests can actually see, which makes it a fun preview of the land’s sense of humor.
From Gonzo’s Royal Flush to Try Our Cans
This spot has a history of bathroom puns. The restrooms that stood here before were themed as Gonzo’s Royal Flush, part of the Muppets section of the park that surrounded MuppetVision 3D.
Imagineering has kept that joke going with the Monsters, Inc. version. “Try Our Cans” plays on “can” as slang for a toilet, the kind of wink Monsters, Inc. fans will appreciate. Swapping one pun for another is a nice nod to longtime Hollywood Studios fans who’ll miss the Muppets area.
The Monster Details
The design takes a classic brick building and adds a monster twist. You’ll see spiked, riveted details that carry the Monstropolis theme into what’s otherwise a pretty traditional structure. The gabled roofline and scalloped details round it out.
Concrete columns are also visible in front of the building. Those are part of the entry gateway work that recent aerials showed taking shape at the edge of the land. We covered that progress in our look at the latest Monstropolis aerials.

A Quick Look Back at the Muppets Area
The Muppets section of Hollywood Studios was known for its jokes, from the signs on the buildings to the fake props in the windows. MuppetVision 3D anchored the area for decades before it closed to make way for Monstropolis, and many fans hoped some of that humor would carry over.
The restroom sign is a small but clear sign that it has. Monsters, Inc. has its own brand of comedy, built around a city of monsters who go to work every day, and a sly bathroom pun fits right in. It’s the kind of detail that gives a land personality before the big attractions even open.
Why Small Details Like This Matter
Restrooms might seem like an odd thing to get excited about. But the best Disney lands are full of tiny jokes and details that reward guests who look closely. A clever restroom sign is a good hint that Monstropolis will have that same playful attention to detail throughout.
It’s also practical. Hollywood Studios restrooms near busy areas get a lot of traffic, and a new building in this part of the park will be welcome once Monstropolis opens.
Monstropolis Progress
Construction continues across the land, including:
- The Monsters Inc Flying Door coaster, Disney’s first suspended coaster, opening in 2028. Cast members recently signed a beam for the coaster.
- The Glob Theater, home to the new “Welcome to Monstropolis” show replacing MuppetVision 3D
- Harryhausen’s, a table-service restaurant. Our post on the Harryhausen’s Restaurant permit has more.
- Archie’s, a quick-service spot
- The Scareporium, the land’s shop
Monstropolis is set to open in phases at Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting in 2027, with the Flying Door coaster coming in 2028.
What This Means for Your Trip
For now, most of Monstropolis is still behind construction walls, so you won’t be able to use the new restrooms yet. But if you’re walking through that part of Hollywood Studios, look up. The “Try Our Cans” facade is one of the easiest Monstropolis details to spot from inside the park right now, and it makes for a fun photo.
The Bottom Line
The Monstropolis restrooms are revealed with a “Try Our Cans” pun, keeping the bathroom joke tradition alive from Gonzo’s Royal Flush. The brick building gets a spiked, riveted monster look, and the columns in front are part of the entry gateway. Monstropolis opens in phases starting in 2027, and details like this are a good sign the land will be packed with fun touches.
