Here are the first two things to understand about Disney Lightning Lane:

Making Reservations with Disney Lightning Lane

Preparing for your Lightning Lane day is as simple! To make the most of Disney Lightning, ensure you have a valid theme park admission for your desired date. Plan ahead by purchasing your park tickets and linking them to your My Disney Experience account before making your Disney Lightning Lane selections. If you’re staying at Walt Disney World Resort, make your resort reservation is also linked to your My Disney Experience account (along with everyone in your part).

For Guests Staying Onsite at Disney Resorts

If you’re staying at one of the eligible Disney resorts, you’re in for a treat! You can start purchasing and planning your Disney Lightning Lane experiences 7 days in advance of your check-in date. This perk is available for the entire length of your stay, up to a maximum of 14 days. This advance planning allows you to book Lightning Lane Single Pass, for one-time access to selected attractions, or Lightning Lane Multi Pass, which offers multiple access to various attractions throughout your stay.

Eligible Disney Resort Hotels also include:

• Walt Disney World Resort Hotels
• Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel
• Walt Disney World Swan Hotel
• Walt Disney World Swan Reserve
• Shades of Green Resort

This early access feature is a fantastic way to ensure you don’t miss out on your must-do attractions, making your visit as magical and seamless as possible.

For Offsite Guests

Visiting Disney but staying offsite? No worries! You can still purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Start planning your theme park days with Lightning Lane access 3 days in advance of your ticket’s start date. This option is available for the duration of your park tickets, allowing you to map out each day of your Disney adventure to ensure maximum fun with minimal waiting.

For Annual Passholders and Guests with Main Entrance Passes

Even if you’re visiting on an Annual Pass or a Main Entrance Pass, you can start buying and planning your Lightning Lane selections 3 days before each visit day. It’s important to note that theme park reservations are required to utilize the Lightning Lane passes.

For those Annual Passholders who are also staying onsite at a Disney Resort, your resort booking will take precedence. This means you will enjoy the same early access benefits as other onsite guests, allowing you to plan 7 days in advance.

Important Information for International Guests

If you’re visiting from outside the United States (with the exception of Canada), here are some crucial details regarding your ability to purchase Lightning Lane Passes:

Geolocation Restrictions

The My Disney Experience app, which is essential for purchasing and managing Lightning Lane passes, uses geolocation technology that currently operates only within the United States. This means that you will not be able to purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass or Lightning Lane Multi Pass from your home country.

Making Purchases Upon Arrival

• Wait Until You Arrive: You will need to wait until you arrive in the United States to make your Lightning Lane selections. Once you’re on American soil, your device should be able to access all the functionalities of the My Disney Experience app.
• Immediate Action: Upon your arrival, you can start the process immediately. This includes downloading the app (if not already installed), updating it to the latest version, and making your purchases.
• Plan Accordingly: Since purchasing your passes can only be done once you’re in the U.S., it might be a good idea to factor some time into your schedule to sort this out before you head to the park.

Currently, this limitation is a known inconvenience for many international visitors, and it’s something Disney may address in the future to make the experience more seamless for all guests.

Purchasing Your Lightning Lane Passes

From the first day of your eligibility, you can purchase your Lightning Lane passes starting at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open the App: Launch the My Disney Experience app and navigate to the Lightning Lane Passes section on the home screen.
2. Select Date and Park: Choose the date of your visit and the theme park you will be attending.
3. Choose Your Pass:
   • Select either a Lightning Lane Single Pass for one-time access, or a Lightning Lane Multi Pass for multiple accesses.
   • For a Multi Pass, select up to three experiences and their respective arrival windows.
   • For a Single Pass, simply choose your desired arrival window for one experience.

Modifying Your Lightning Lane Selections

• Change Park or Date: You can change your selected park or date before the day begins, subject to availability.
• Change Experience or Arrival Window: Modify your chosen experience or arrival window up until the start of that arrival window, also subject to availability.

Important Modification Notes:

• If you switch your Lightning Lane Multi Pass from a less expensive park (like Animal Kingdom) to a more expensive one (like Magic Kingdom), additional charges will apply to cover the price difference.
• Similarly, changes from a less expensive day to a more expensive day will incur additional charges.
