Jeff Vahle’s retirement from Disney didn’t last long before he picked up a new role. The former Walt Disney World President is headed to the board that oversees the airport most Disney World guests fly into.
Quick Summary
- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed former Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the board that oversees Orlando International Airport.
- The appointment was announced on October 30, 2026, and still needs to be confirmed by the Florida Senate.
- DeSantis also reappointed Dan Giordano, General Manager at Rosen Shingle Creek, to the same board.
- It’s the second state board appointment for Vahle from DeSantis, following his UCF Board of Trustees appointment in October 2025.
Jeff Vahle’s New Role
Governor DeSantis appointed Jeff Vahle to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) on October 30, 2026. GOAA is the board that oversees Orlando International Airport (MCO).
The appointment isn’t final yet. The Florida Senate needs to confirm it before Vahle can take his seat on the board.
DeSantis also reappointed Dan Giordano, General Manager at Rosen Shingle Creek, to the GOAA board in the same announcement.
Why This One Is Interesting for Disney Fans
Orlando International Airport is the main gateway for millions of Walt Disney World guests every year. If you’ve flown to a Disney vacation, there’s a good chance you landed at MCO.
Vahle spent six years running the resort that drives a huge share of that traffic. Now he moves to the other side of the trip, helping guide the airport that gets guests to Central Florida in the first place. Few people know the connection between Orlando tourism and air travel better than someone who just finished running Disney World.
To be clear, a seat on the board doesn’t mean Disney gets a say in how the airport runs. Vahle is no longer a Disney employee, and the board is a public body. But it does put someone with deep theme park experience in a position to weigh in on the airport that serves those parks.

A Look Back at Vahle’s Disney Career
Vahle retired as Walt Disney World President in late July 2026, after 36 years with the company. Joe Schott took over the role on August 6. We covered both moves when they happened: Jeff Vahle signing off as Walt Disney World President and Joe Schott sharing his first message as the new president.
Vahle started his Disney career in 1990 as an engineer at Magic Kingdom. He worked his way up and served as Walt Disney World President from 2020 to 2026. During that time, he oversaw the opening of several major attractions, including:
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Those are some of the biggest additions Walt Disney World has made in years, and they opened during a stretch that also included the resort’s recovery after its 2020 closure.
Roles Outside of Disney
Vahle has also been active in the Central Florida community. He:
- Serves on the Rollins College Board of Trustees
- Is a member of the Florida Council of 100
- Previously served on the Give Kids the World Board of Directors
He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University and an MBA from Rollins College.
Another DeSantis Appointment
This is the second time DeSantis has appointed Vahle to a state board. In October 2025, while he was still Walt Disney World President, Vahle was appointed to the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees.
That earlier appointment caught some people off guard because of the public fight between DeSantis and Disney. Here’s the short version:
- 2022: Disney opposed Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, and the dispute with the governor began.
- After that: The state took control of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the special district that covered Disney’s property, and renamed it the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
- 2024: The legal battle between Disney and the state was settled.
Since the settlement, the governor’s appointments have pointed to a more cooperative relationship with Disney. Appointing Vahle to the airport board, now as a former Disney executive, continues that pattern.
What Happens Next
The next step is Florida Senate confirmation. Once that happens, Vahle will take his seat on the GOAA board alongside Giordano and the other members. We’ll keep an eye on the confirmation and share any updates.
The Bottom Line
Jeff Vahle went from running Walt Disney World to helping oversee the airport that brings guests to it. It’s a natural fit given his background and his long history in Central Florida, and it’s another sign that the relationship between Disney and the state has cooled off since the Reedy Creek fight. For guests, nothing changes right away, but it’s an interesting new chapter for one of the most familiar faces in Disney World leadership.
