The blasters — those iconic cannon-style shooters you aim at targets throughout the ride — have been fully redesigned. The new version has improved targeting accuracy and a snappier response, making it easier to lock on and score. Whether you’re a first-timer or a veteran chasing the Galactic Hero rank, better blasters are always a win.

Interactive Digital Targets

Throughout the ride, you’ll now encounter interactive digital targets that respond in real time. These replace many of the static targets from before, creating a more dynamic scoring experience where hitting certain targets triggers visible reactions in the scene around you.

Real-Time Scoring Screens in the Ride Vehicles

One of the best additions: scoring screens are now built into the ride vehicles themselves. You can see your running score in real time as you move through each scene — no more waiting until the end to find out how you did. For competitive riders, this is a game changer. You’ll be making adjustments mid-ride based on what’s working and what isn’t.

New Opening Scene with Character Buddy

Before you enter the main ride experience, you’ll encounter a new opening scene featuring Buddy — a brand-new character created specifically for this attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar. Buddy serves as your guide and mission briefer, adding a fresh narrative layer to the ride that didn’t exist before. It’s a small but meaningful touch that helps the attraction feel like it belongs in 2026.

Updated Space Scene Before the Finale

The space scene that plays out before the finale has been completely reworked with new animation and easier-to-track moving targets. Buzz Lightyear now appears in this sequence — a notable addition since he wasn’t visible in that section before. If you’re gunning for the top score, this is a scene worth paying attention to.

Enhanced PhotoPass

For the first time, the PhotoPass photo includes more than just your smiling face — it now captures your score, rank, mission location, and detailed stats including total targets hit and special targets hit. A great souvenir for anyone who nailed a top rank, and a solid motivation to actually chase that Galactic Hero title.

How to Ride and What to Expect

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is available during Early Entry, regular Magic Kingdom park hours, and Extended Evening Hours. You can hop in the standby queue or grab it via Lightning Lane Multi Pass if you want to skip the line.

Given that this is a freshly reopened attraction with all-new features, expect wait times to be on the longer side in the first few weeks. Early mornings or late evenings during Extended Evening Hours will be your best bets for shorter queues.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip.
