Here’s what’s happening with the Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin cast member previews, when public access begins, and a full breakdown of everything that’s new inside the attraction.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Cast Member Preview Schedule

Cast Member previews kicked off as of March 19, 2026, and they’re expected to run for several days as Disney tests the experience and prepares for its public debut.

First public previews for select groups are scheduled to begin on March 29. Disney hasn’t announced Annual Passholder previews yet, but that’s typically how this works — AP previews usually show up in the window between cast previews and opening day.

If you hold an Annual Pass and want to be among the first riders, keep an eye on your Disney Park Pass availability and watch for any communications from Disney in the days ahead. The official reopening date is April 8, 2026.

What’s New Inside the Refurbished Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

The Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin refurbishment goes well beyond cosmetic changes. Here’s the full breakdown of what’s different.

New Character: Meet Buddy

The opening sequence has been completely reworked around a new character named Buddy — a support robot created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar. Buddy walks Space Rangers through system checks before the mission launches, adding a proper story introduction that the original ride never really had.

Redesigned Ride Vehicles with Real-Time Scoring

The vehicles now feature a Star Command styling and onboard screens that show your score in real time during the mission. You’ll know exactly how you’re doing at every moment — no more waiting until the final tally at the end.

Handheld Blasters Replace Fixed Versions

The original fixed blasters are gone. The refurbished attraction features handheld blasters with vibration feedback, sound effects, and an always-on laser so you can track exactly where your shots land. This is one of the most gameplay-changing upgrades — aim precision has been one of the biggest complaints about the original ride for years.

Interactive Targets with Light-Up Feedback

All targets throughout the ride now react and light up when you hit them. It’s a clear improvement over the old mechanical targets, which often gave no visible feedback and made it hard to know if you were scoring at all.

The digital target system also enables Easter eggs and hidden gameplay features — extra score opportunities built in for riders who know where to look and what to aim for.

New Hyperspace Tunnel: Buzz and Zurg Together

The hyperspace tunnel scene now uses new projection technology to show Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg for the first time during the ride. This adds actual storytelling to a scene that previously just served as a transition moment between sections.

New queue and updated entrance for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland

New Marquee, Updated Queue, and Toy Story 5 References

The exterior is getting a refresh too. A new marquee with a Space Mountain-style white spire is almost complete at the entrance — a visual upgrade that should make the attraction easier to spot from across Tomorrowland.

Inside the queue, riders have noticed a refreshed look — and there are reports of possible Toy Story 5 references hidden throughout. Disney hasn’t confirmed anything officially, but if you’re riding in the coming weeks, it’s worth keeping your eyes open.

Your PhotoPass Image Just Got Better

The updated PhotoPass image for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin now includes a detailed scoring breakdown for each rider. You’ll be able to see exactly how many points you scored in each section — perfect for competitive families who need definitive proof of who actually won.

Should You Plan a Ride on Opening Day?

If you’re visiting Magic Kingdom around April 8, yes — absolutely get on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin as soon as you can. The combination of new blasters, real-time scoring, Buddy, digital targets, and the revamped PhotoPass makes this a fundamentally different experience from the version that closed for refurbishment.

Opening day crowds for Buzz Lightyear will likely be manageable compared to a new attraction opening — but expect some interest given how much buzz (sorry) the refurbishment has generated.

DisMornings will have full coverage as the Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin cast member previews continue and the public opening approaches. Stay tuned for ride-through reports and everything you need to know before April 8.
