Hey Disney Vacationers! Disney’s not slowing down—and neither is the progress on Zootopia: Better Zoogether! A new permit has just dropped, and it points to the next big milestone: signage.

Walt Disney Imagineering officially filed a Notice of Commencement for signage installation at the Tree of Life Theater in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This permit lists Jon Richards Company as the contractor—the same crew that’s had their hands in other major projects at Test Track in EPCOT, Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, and even the Minions areas at Universal Studios Florida.

If you’ve been following the transformation of the Tree of Life Theater, this update won’t come as a shock. After It’s Tough to Be a Bug! closed on March 17, 2025, things started moving fast. Disney pulled down the entrance marquee within days and has been steadily filing permits for set pieces, electrical upgrades, and full-on infrastructure work since.

Now, with this latest permit to install signage, the visual shift is about to get real. This strongly points to work on the Zootopia: Better Zoogether! show, which is set to debut in winter 2025.

What’s Coming with Zootopia: Better Zoogether?

If you’ve missed the buzz, here’s the rundown:

  • The new show will bring guests deep into the biomes of Zootopia, tying in familiar characters from the 2016 film.
  • The theater will feature a fully reimagined experience—this isn’t just a new film, it’s a full thematic update. Including a potential fog effect.
  • The phrase “Better Zoogether” hints at a storyline focused on cooperation, community, and species from every corner of Zootopia.

With signage now in the works, guests can expect the exterior transformation of the Tree of Life Theater to start showing its stripes (or spots… or sloth fur) in the coming weeks.

Why This Permit Matters

This new permit for Zootopia Better Zoogether signage is more than just paperwork. It’s a clear signal that we’re moving into the next phase. When Disney starts putting up signs, they’re gearing up for showtime—literally.

The signage will likely be the first thing guests see signaling the shift to Zootopia, replacing any remaining remnants of the old attraction. Expect photo-worthy entrance displays and themed visual elements to start appearing soon.

Disney has said Zootopia Better Zoogether should open winter of 2025. I would not be surprised to see the new show open towards the beginning of the Disney holiday season. Which we all know is the day after Halloween. Opening the show prior to the Thanksgiving crowds would make a lot of sense.

Final Thought

As a Disney Parks fan, I always keep an eye on the permits—it’s one of the clearest signs of real change. And this permit for Zootopia Better Zoogether signage tells me we’re getting close. So if you’re as pumped for this new show as I am, keep watching the Tree of Life. The animals of Zootopia are about to move in.
