If you’ve been grabbing popcorn and snacks from Westward Ho Refreshments on your Magic Kingdom visits, that option is officially gone. Westward Ho Refreshments permanently closed on June 22, 2026 in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom — and just like Big Al’s before it, Disney didn’t say a word about it. The westward ho refreshments closed magic kingdom 2026 situation is the latest quiet move in a much bigger story: Piston Peak National Park is coming, and Frontierland is being completely transformed to make room for it.
Quick Summary
- Westward Ho Refreshments permanently closed June 22, 2026 in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom
- No official Disney announcement — hours dropped from My Disney Experience, web page removed
- Big Al’s closed May 11, making this the second Frontierland kiosk gone
- A popcorn cart now sits near the closed building, with signage pointing guests to Popcorn Wagon
- The Churro Wagon Cart is still operating — for now
- Both closures are connected to Piston Peak National Park construction
How the Closure Went Down
Disney didn’t announce this one. No big farewell, no social post, no statement. If you noticed, you noticed. If you didn’t, you might show up expecting a quick snack and find a shuttered building with a sign directing you to Popcorn Wagon instead.
That’s exactly how Big Al’s went down on May 11 — and Westward Ho followed the exact same playbook. Operating hours quietly disappeared from My Disney Experience. The location’s page was removed from the official Disney World website. And the building closed without any public communication from Disney.
A popcorn cart is now parked alongside the closed Westward Ho structure, and signage on the building points guests toward the nearby Popcorn Wagon for refreshments. It’s a functional workaround, but if you had Westward Ho saved in your plan, update it before your next visit.
Both Frontierland Kiosks Are Now Gone
With Westward Ho closed, both Frontierland refreshment kiosks that appeared in earlier construction permit filings have now permanently shut down. Big Al’s went first on May 11, 2026. Westward Ho followed on June 22. Between the two closures, Frontierland’s quick-grab snack options have gotten noticeably thinner.
The one holdout is the Churro Wagon Cart. It was included in the same original permit filings as both of the now-closed kiosks, but as of now it hasn’t shown a closure date in My Disney Experience. Given the pattern, that could change — but it’s still serving churros for the moment.
Notices of Commencement filed earlier this year named Buena Vista Construction Company — Disney’s in-house construction arm — as the contractor for work at the Westward Ho site. Construction is officially underway.
What’s Coming: Piston Peak National Park
Both of these closures are directly tied to one of the most exciting projects Magic Kingdom has seen in years: Piston Peak National Park. Disney announced the land at the 2024 D23 Expo, and it’s set to be a massive expansion inspired by the Cars universe — specifically the wilderness national park setting from various Pixar shorts.
The land will include two attractions. The first is a rally race experience through mountain terrain complete with geysers and mudholes. The second is a family-friendly ride, though details on it remain limited. No opening timeline has been officially announced.
Construction progress is very visible right now. Foundation work and concrete retaining walls are already up and visible from the Frontierland pathway and from the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad queue. The cleared and graded site extends well beyond Big Thunder Mountain into the former Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America area — which tells you just how large this expansion will be.
Where to Grab Snacks in Frontierland Now
Losing two snack kiosks in the same area of the park is annoying, especially on a hot Florida day. Here’s what’s still available nearby while construction continues:
- Popcorn Wagon — Still open in Frontierland, serving popcorn and quick snacks
- Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe — Full quick-service menu with solid food options
- Tortuga Tavern — Seasonal, but check the My Disney Experience app to see if it’s open on your visit
- The Churro Wagon Cart — Still operating as of now, worth grabbing while you still can
Westward Ho Refreshments Closed at Magic Kingdom: Final Thoughts
The quiet closure of Westward Ho Refreshments at Magic Kingdom isn’t just about losing a snack spot — it’s a real, visible sign that Piston Peak National Park is happening and moving fast. Frontierland is going to look dramatically different in a few years, and the clearing out of these kiosks is the first real thing most guests will notice on the ground.
If you’re visiting Magic Kingdom in the near term, plan your snack stops ahead of time. The options in Frontierland have shrunk. But if Piston Peak delivers on what was teased at D23, the trade-off will absolutely be worth it. Keep checking back — we’ll update you as construction milestones hit and more details emerge on the new land.
