Animal Kingdom is getting a Santa experience again this year — and it needed a new home to do it.
Santa’s Holiday Grove runs November 13 through January 6, 2027. The park’s previous Santa location in DinoLand U.S.A. is no longer available, so Disney has built the experience somewhere else.
Quick Summary
- Santa’s Holiday Grove runs November 13 through January 6, 2027
- Located across from Finding Nemo: The Big Blue … and Beyond! at Theater in the Wild
- Features a trail with intermittent snow flurries
- Santa will be there to hear wish lists
- Specialty food and beverage items will be available
- A festive soundtrack plays throughout
- No concept art has been released yet
- The park’s former Santa location in DinoLand U.S.A. is no longer available
What Disney Has Confirmed
Details are thin — Disney has not released concept art — but the confirmed list is specific enough to picture:
- A trail you walk, with snow flurries firing intermittently
- Santa himself, taking wish lists
- Specialty food and beverage items
- A festive soundtrack throughout
The word doing the most work there is trail. This is not a meet-and-greet queue with a backdrop. A walkable path with snow effects and a grove setting is closer to a small holiday environment than a photo op, which is a step up from what Animal Kingdom’s Santa offering has been.
Where Exactly?
Disney says the grove sits across from Theater in the Wild, home of Finding Nemo: The Big Blue … and Beyond!
wdwmagic notes that the description — a walkable trail with snow effects in an outdoor grove setting — sounds consistent with the former Rivers of Light viewing area, while flagging that Disney has not confirmed the exact footprint. That is their read, and it is a reasonable one given the space and the shape of what is described. It is not confirmed, and we cannot confirm it either.
What is worth noting independently: that part of the park has a lot of unused outdoor capacity sitting idle since Rivers of Light ended. Repurposing it seasonally costs Disney very little and solves a real problem.
The DinoLand Problem
The line in Disney’s announcement that explains this whole thing is that the former DinoLand U.S.A. Santa location is no longer available.
Animal Kingdom’s holiday footprint has always been the lightest of the four Walt Disney World parks. There is no nighttime holiday spectacular, no hard-ticket Christmas party, and the decor is deliberately restrained to fit the park’s design language. Santa in DinoLand was one of the few concrete holiday things the park actually had.
Losing that location without replacing it would have left Animal Kingdom with almost nothing seasonal beyond garland. Building a new, larger experience instead of quietly dropping Santa is the more interesting choice — it suggests Disney sees the park’s holiday offering as worth investing in rather than tolerating.
How This Fits the 2026 Holiday Lineup
Santa’s Holiday Grove is the fourth holiday addition announced in the same stretch, and the dates are worth lining up:
- Santa’s Holiday Grove — November 13 through January 6, Animal Kingdom
- Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams holiday playlist — November 4 through January 6, Hollywood Studios
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay — November 4 through January 6, Hollywood Studios
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind holiday songs — November 25 through January 6, EPCOT
Every one of them ends January 6. That is a resort-wide holiday window rather than four independent decisions, and it means the first week of January is a genuinely good target: everything is still running, and the holiday crowds have largely cleared.
What We Still Don’t Know
The gaps that matter for planning:
- No concept art or photos, so the scale is guesswork
- No word on whether Santa requires a Lightning Lane or virtual queue, or whether it is standby only
- No operating hours. A trail with snow effects reads better after dark, but Animal Kingdom’s evening hours in November and December vary considerably
- No pricing on the specialty food and beverage items
- No confirmation on PhotoPass availability at the Santa meet
- No confirmed end-of-day cutoff for the Santa greeting itself, which is usually earlier than park close
That operating hours question is the one to watch. If the grove only runs during daylight, the snow flurries lose most of their effect.
Practical Notes
- Dates: November 13 through January 6, 2027
- Park: Disney’s Animal Kingdom — park admission required
- Santa meets at Walt Disney World typically draw their longest lines mid-afternoon and on weekends in December
- Animal Kingdom tends to empty out in the late afternoon, which historically makes it the easiest park for character meets later in the day
- If you are building a December Animal Kingdom day, pair this with the park’s regular holiday decor rather than treating it as a destination on its own
The Bottom Line
Santa’s Holiday Grove gives Animal Kingdom a real holiday experience to replace the one it lost with DinoLand — a walkable trail with snow flurries, Santa, food, and music, running November 13 through January 6.
No concept art yet, so the scale is an open question. But a trail is a meaningfully bigger idea than a meet-and-greet, and for the park with the thinnest holiday lineup on property, that is the right direction.
