Toy Story Land is getting a holiday soundtrack. Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams adds four seasonal songs from November 4 through January 6 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney is switching it up. A seasonal overlay for Alien Swirling Saucers is not new for the attraction. However, with the addition of Lilypad this past September, Disney is working in the new storyline with the holiday overlay as well.
Two of the four are new originals written specifically for the attraction — which is the opposite of what Disney just did at Cosmic Rewind, and here it is probably the right call.
Quick Summary
- The holiday playlist runs November 4 through January 6
- Four songs: “Deck the Halls,” “Toyland,” “Swirling, Swirling, Saucers,” and “Joy to the Swirl”
- Two are familiar classics, two are new takes written for the attraction
- Same style as the Toy Story remixes and originals Lilypad has been spinning since the updated attraction opened September 25
- This is the third Hollywood Studios holiday overlay announced — all on overlapping dates
The Four Songs
- “Deck the Halls”
- “Toyland”
- “Swirling, Swirling, Saucers”
- “Joy to the Swirl”
Disney describes it as a mix of familiar classics and new takes written for the attraction.
The split is easy to read. “Deck the Halls” is the standard. “Toyland” is the clever pick — it comes from the 1903 operetta Babes in Toyland, and it is a wistful song about childhood ending. On a ride in Toy Story Land, in a land built entirely around toys, that is almost too on the nose to pass up.
“Swirling, Swirling, Saucers” and “Joy to the Swirl” are the originals, and both titles tell you the register: puns, energy, no pretense. “Joy to the Swirl” in particular is the kind of joke that works precisely because nobody is pretending it is clever.
Why Originals Work Here and Failed at Cosmic Rewind
This is worth sitting with, because the same week produced two holiday overlays taking opposite approaches.
Disney tried a holiday overlay at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in 2022 built on original arrangements — a rework of “Run Run Rudolph” into “Run Run Rocket” plus traditional carols. Guests disliked it and Disney pulled it the following year. For 2026, Cosmic Rewind is switching to three real commercial records instead.
Alien Swirling Saucers is going the other direction, and the premise is why.
Cosmic Rewind’s soundtrack is a character detail — you are hearing Star-Lord’s mixtape, which means every song has to be a record a real person would actually own. A Disney-commissioned medley breaks that.
Lilypad’s Jams has no such constraint. The attraction has been running on remixes and originals since it reopened September 25. There is no in-universe claim that these are real songs from a real record collection — Lilypad is a DJ playing a set, and a set can contain whatever the DJ wants. An original called “Joy to the Swirl” does not violate anything.
That is the lesson from the two overlays side by side: original music is not the problem. Original music that contradicts an attraction’s premise is the problem.
Hollywood Studios Is Doing a Coordinated Push
Three holiday overlays were announced for Walt Disney World in a single day, and two of them share identical dates.
- Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams — November 4 through January 6, Hollywood Studios
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay — November 4 through January 6, Hollywood Studios
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — November 25 through January 6, EPCOT
Two Hollywood Studios attractions starting and ending on exactly the same days is not a coincidence. That is a park-level holiday program rather than two separate ride teams deciding to add bells.
For planning, it also means one Hollywood Studios day in November gets you both overlays, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Alien Swirling Saucers sit on opposite ends of the park — so build that into your touring order rather than backtracking.
What This Tells You About the Retheme
Alien Swirling Saucers reopened as Lilypad’s Jams on September 25, and a holiday playlist arriving roughly six weeks later says something.
Swapping a playlist is the cheapest possible seasonal overlay — no new hardware, no ride system changes, no projections to re-render. But the fact that Disney commissioned two new original songs for a six-week window on a flat ride is more investment than a playlist swap strictly requires.
That reads as confidence in the new format. A DJ-set premise is infinitely extensible: Disney can drop in a holiday set, a summer set, an anniversary set, whatever, without touching anything physical. If this overlay lands well, expect more of them.
Practical Notes
- Dates: November 4 through January 6
- Location: Toy Story Land, Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- The change is music only, as far as Disney has said — no announced changes to the ride’s lighting, decor, or queue
- No word on whether the regular Lilypad’s Jams tracks stay in rotation alongside the holiday songs, or get fully replaced for the window
That last point matters if you have a favorite from the regular set. Disney’s phrasing is that four songs are “joining the lineup,” which suggests addition rather than replacement — but it is not explicit, and at Cosmic Rewind the holiday tracks replace the regular ones outright.
The Bottom Line
Four holiday songs on Alien Swirling Saucers, two of them written for the ride, running November 4 through January 6. “Joy to the Swirl” is a genuinely good pun and “Toyland” is a genuinely good fit.
The more interesting story is the pattern: Hollywood Studios is running a coordinated holiday overlay program this year, and the DJ-set premise makes Alien Swirling Saucers the easiest attraction on property to keep reskinning.
