New character handle accessories for Disney resort refillable mugs

You can put a tiny surfboard with Mike Wazowski on it onto your resort mug now. Walt Disney World has a new way to personalize your Resort Refillable Drink Mug — clip-on character handle accessories that slide onto the mug’s handle.

The Disney World refillable mug accessories are sold separately from the mug, so you can mix and match colors and characters.

Here’s the lineup, where to find them, and how they work with Rapid Fill.

Quick Summary

  • New character handle accessories clip onto Resort Refillable Drink Mug handles
  • Each accessory is a surfboard-shaped charm
  • The lineup includes Mike Wazowski, Sulley, Jessie, Joy, and Woody
  • Charms are sold separately from the mug
  • Available at five resort locations for now
  • Supplies are limited

How They Work

Start with your favorite Resort-Refillable Drink Mug color, then add a character handle accessory.

Each accessory is a surfboard-shaped charm that slides onto the mug’s handle. The current lineup features:

  • Mike Wazowski
  • Sulley
  • Jessie
  • Joy
  • Woody

The charms are sold separately from the mug itself, so you can mix and match colors and characters to build a mug that fits your style.

The Surfboard Shape Is Doing Practical Work

It looks like pure theming, but the shape is functional.

A surfboard is long, narrow, and slightly curved — which is exactly the profile you need for something that slides onto a mug handle and stays put without a clasp. A round charm would spin. A flat one wouldn’t grip.

It also solves a real problem at resort drink stations: telling your mug apart from everyone else’s.

Resort mugs come in a handful of colors, and a family of four with four mugs of two colors ends up playing guess-whose-this-is at every refill. A distinct character charm makes yours immediately identifiable.

Where to Find Them

The character handle accessories are available at a limited number of resort locations for now:

  • Landscape of Flavors and Ink and Paint at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
  • Riverside Mill Food Court at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
  • Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Everything POP Shopping & Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort
  • Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

Supplies are limited, so grab one early in your trip if you want a specific character.

Note the Resort Tiers

Look at that list again. Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, and both Port Orleans resorts.

Those are value and moderate resorts — no deluxe properties on the list at launch.

That makes sense. Refillable mug culture is strongest at value and moderate resorts, where guests are more likely to be eating at food courts, staying longer, and optimizing costs. Deluxe guests use the mugs less.

If you’re staying deluxe and want one, you’ll need to visit one of these five resorts. All are accessible via Disney transportation, and resort hopping is free.

Pairing With Rapid Fill

Disney’s Rapid Fill program covers fountain drinks, coffee, and tea at any resort self-service beverage location for the length of your stay.

Rapid Fill currently runs $22.99 plus tax and links to your mug for quick refills at self-service stations.

Is the Mug Worth It?

Do the arithmetic honestly, because it depends entirely on your trip.

At $22.99 plus tax for unlimited refills across your stay, the mug pays for itself at roughly five or six fountain drinks. Individual soft drinks at resort food courts run several dollars each.

Worth it if you’re staying four or more nights, you drink coffee every morning, or you’re travelling with people who drink soda regularly.

Not worth it if you’re staying two nights, you’re in the parks all day and only sleeping at the resort, or you mostly drink water.

The charm is a separate decision. It adds cost for a purely cosmetic benefit — plus the genuine practical value of identifying your mug.

What About the Old Mugs?

The accessories are designed for the current Resort Refillable Drink Mug handle.

Disney has redesigned the mug periodically over the years, and older mugs from previous trips have different handle profiles. There’s no indication the charms fit older designs.

If you’re bringing a mug from a previous trip — which doesn’t work with Rapid Fill anyway, since the program links to the current mug’s chip — assume the charm won’t fit either.

The Bottom Line

Disney World refillable mug accessories are surfboard-shaped character charms that clip onto your Resort Refillable Drink Mug handle, currently featuring Mike Wazowski, Sulley, Jessie, Joy, and Woody.

They’re sold separately at five locations across Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, and both Port Orleans resorts.

Supplies are limited, so buy early in your trip if you want a specific character. And if you’re travelling with a group carrying identical mugs, the charm earns its cost the first time nobody argues at the drink station.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
