Skipper’s Adventure Tiki Mug

Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’re a Disney fan and a tiki mug collector, this is one release you don’t want to miss. Disney just dropped a brand-new limited-edition tiki mug — the Skipper’s Adventure Mug by Mookie Sato — and it’s already creating serious buzz at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Let’s break down everything you need to know.

What Is the Skipper’s Adventure Tiki Mug?

The Skipper’s Adventure Mug is the latest collectible tiki mug released by Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. Designed by Japanese illustrator Mookie Sato, this mug blends classic Jungle Cruise energy with mid-century tiki flair.

Release Date: May 28
Location: Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Price: $75 plus tax (includes a specialty drink) – estimated based on the previous version
Limit: One per person, while supplies last

This is a limited-edition release — and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

How to Get the Skipper’s Adventure Tiki Mug

Here’s how Disney is managing the release:

  • Guests will receive a bracelet (think of it like a placeholder wristband) while waiting in line at Trader Sam’s.
  • Once the doors officially open, mugs are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Disney has not announced how long the mugs will remain in stock, and availability often depends on design popularity, artist recognition, and price point.

Quick tip: if you really want one, get there early. Past releases like the Madame Leota mug ($85 plus tax) sold out quickly.

Who Is Mookie Sato?

Mookie Sato is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Kyoto, Japan. His art is deeply influenced by:

  • Classic American cartoons
  • Vintage toys
  • Music from the 1920s to the 1960s
  • Polynesian pop and tiki culture
  • Mid-century modern design

He’s known for creating playful, nostalgic work that feels right at home in a tiki bar — and Disney fans are already calling this one of the most exciting Trader Sam’s releases in years.

You can find more of his work, including past tiki mug designs, on his personal web store.

This Isn’t Mookie’s First Trader Sam’s Mug

The May 28 release isn’t the first time Mookie Sato has teamed up with Trader Sam’s. Back on August 8, 2024, he designed a green version of the Skipper’s Adventure Mug for Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland.

That version had its own special touch — some mugs were signed by Mookie himself in Sharpie on the bottom during the release day. These signed pieces quickly became collector favorites and can occasionally be found on resale markets.

So, if you’re grabbing this new Walt Disney World edition, you’re collecting a continuation of that story.

Disney’s New Trend: Partnering with Tiki Artists

Disney has recently started collaborating with independent artists in the tiki community to design original mugs for Trader Sam’s. This gives each release a unique flair and adds collector value.

A recent example is the Madame Leota mug, designed by Tank Standing Buffalo. Like the Skipper’s Adventure Mug, that release featured a custom sculpt, unique packaging, and a built-in drink.

These artist collabs are now a major draw for fans of tiki culture, art collectors, and longtime Disney parkgoers alike.

Another New Tiki Mug Just Released

If you’re already heading to Trader Sam’s, here’s another update: the 4th edition of the Zombie mug dropped on May 2. This recurring design now features a greenish hue, compared to the bluish tone of the 3rd edition.

Unlike the Skipper’s Adventure Mug, the Zombie mug is part of Trader Sam’s standard rotating lineup — so you’ll likely have a bit more time to grab that one.

Final Thoughts: Should You Get One?

If you’re a collector, this is a no-brainer.
If you’re a casual Disney fan who loves great design, it’s still worth checking out.

The Trader Sam’s Skipper’s Adventure Tiki Mug by Mookie Sato isn’t just a drink vessel — it’s a piece of park history, crafted by an artist who truly gets the spirit of tiki.

It’s rare, it’s original, and it’s probably not going to last long.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
