Magic Kingdom Ferry Boat Construction: Hull Assembly Nears Completion

Reading Time: 4 minutes
Magic Kingdom new ferry boat hull construction update July 2026

The fourth Magic Kingdom ferry boat just hit a real milestone. New aerial photos on X show the hull fully assembled at the service marina near Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Magic Kingdom ferry boat construction is now visibly past the hardest structural stage.

If you’ve been watching this project since the hull sections first showed up on property, this is the update you’ve been waiting for. The shape is there. The size is obvious. And for the first time, it looks like a boat instead of a pile of steel.

Here’s what the latest photos show, what’s left to do, and why this particular vessel matters more than a routine fleet addition.

Quick Summary

  • The hull of Magic Kingdom’s fourth ferry boat is now fully assembled at the service marina near the Contemporary Resort
  • The 120-foot vessel remains in bare metal, with painting and fit-out still ahead
  • Deck openings are visible where staircases and superstructure will be fitted
  • Disney previously indicated assembly would take roughly one year after hull sections arrived
  • The boat is targeted for a 2027 launch on Seven Seas Lagoon
  • It will be named the Meg Gilbert Crofton, after Walt Disney World’s fourth president
  • The addition expands the Magic Kingdom ferry fleet to four boats for the first time since 1976

What the Latest Aerials Show

The hull is fully formed and shows the wide, flat-bottomed profile that matches the existing Magic Kingdom fleet. That shape is not an accident — it’s what lets these boats carry a large standing load across shallow water at low speed.

Several deck openings are visible on the top of the hull. Those are where staircases and the superstructure will eventually be fitted. Right now they read as gaps in the deck, but they map directly to the two-level layout guests know from riding the current boats.

The vessel is still in bare metal. Painting and fit-out are both still ahead, and those stages take real time.

A Victoria Marine trailer sits on site alongside heavy construction equipment, including a crane and lift vehicles actively working around the boat.

The Scale Is Easier to Read on Land

The 120-foot vessel fills a substantial portion of the yard area next to the marina building. That’s the part these photos capture better than anything else.

You lose the sense of size when a ferry is sitting in Seven Seas Lagoon with water around it and Cinderella Castle behind it. Out of the water, on a hardstand, next to trucks and a crane, the proportions land differently. These boats are big.

What’s Still Left to Build

A finished hull is a major structural milestone, but it isn’t a finished boat. Still to come:

  • Superstructure installation — the upper deck, staircases, railings, and passenger areas
  • Painting — the white and blue livery that matches the rest of the fleet
  • Interior fit-out — seating, flooring, signage, safety equipment
  • Mechanical and electrical systems — propulsion, steering, lighting, navigation
  • Testing and certification — sea trials and regulatory sign-off before it carries guests

Disney previously indicated the assembly process would take approximately one year after the hull sections arrived on property. The target for launch on Seven Seas Lagoon is 2027.

Why the Meg Gilbert Crofton Name Matters

Once complete, the vessel will be named the Meg Gilbert Crofton, after Walt Disney World’s fourth president.

That puts it in specific company. The current fleet is the Admiral Joe Fowler, the General Joe Potter, and the Richard F. Irvine — all named for figures central to building and running Walt Disney World. Fowler and Potter were the construction leaders who turned Florida swampland into a working resort. Irvine was an Imagineering leader whose name has been on a Magic Kingdom vessel in one form or another for decades.

Adding Crofton to that list continues a naming tradition that treats the ferries as rolling monuments to the people who built the place.

Four Boats for the First Time Since 1976

Here’s the detail most fans miss: this addition brings the Magic Kingdom ferry fleet back to four boats for the first time since 1976.

For roughly fifty years, three boats have carried the entire Seven Seas Lagoon load between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. Anyone who has stood in that queue on a park-opening morning, or after a fireworks dismissal, understands what a fourth hull could mean.

More capacity means shorter waits at the two worst pinch points of the day. It also means Disney can pull a boat for refurbishment without dropping the fleet to two — which is the situation that turns the ferry line into a monorail line instead.

What This Means for Your Next Trip

Nothing changes yet. The boat is targeted for 2027, and there’s a lot of work between a bare hull and a vessel carrying guests.

For trips before then, plan around three ferries as usual. Take the monorail when the ferry queue looks long, walk the path from the Transportation and Ticket Center if you’re up for it, and remember the ferry is often the faster option at park close even when the line looks worse.

For 2027 and beyond, the Seven Seas Lagoon crossing should get noticeably easier.

The Bottom Line

Magic Kingdom ferry boat construction has cleared its biggest structural hurdle. The hull for the Meg Gilbert Crofton is fully assembled at the service marina, with painting, superstructure, and fit-out still to come ahead of a 2027 launch.

It’s a slow project with a real payoff — a fourth boat on Seven Seas Lagoon for the first time in about fifty years. Keep watching the aerials. The next visible change should be the superstructure going on, and that’s when it starts looking like the ferries you already know.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
