Infernal Carnival of Nightmares scare zone at Halloween Horror Nights 35

The first scare zone is confirmed, and it’s the one you walk into. Universal Orlando announced Infernal Carnival of Nightmares as the first scare zone for Halloween Horror Nights 35 — and it’s the park’s entrance zone.

Jack and Dr. Oddfellow invite you to step right up and see what horrors hide in every shadow at a sinister spectacle decades in the making.

The Infernal Carnival of Nightmares scare zone is located in Production Central/Avenue of the Stars. Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs August 28, 2026 through November 1, 2026.

Quick Summary

  • Infernal Carnival of Nightmares is the first announced scare zone for HHN 35
  • It is confirmed as the park’s entrance zone
  • The location is Production Central/Avenue of the Stars
  • Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow co-host the zone
  • The concept is described as a spectacle “decades in the making”
  • HHN 35 runs August 28 through November 1, 2026

The Entrance Zone Is a Big Deal

This is the part worth understanding if you’re new to HHN.

The entrance scare zone is not just another zone. It’s the first thing every single guest experiences, every single night, before they’ve done anything else.

That gives it a job the other zones don’t have: setting the tone for the entire event. Everything you feel about HHN 35 in your first ninety seconds gets decided here.

Universal putting the event’s namesake concept in the entrance position tells you exactly how central the Infernal Carnival is to this year. It’s not one theme among several — it’s the frame around everything.

Production Central / Avenue of the Stars

The location is the wide boulevard you walk down immediately after tapping in at Universal Studios Florida.

That’s the largest and most trafficked space in the park, which makes it well suited to a carnival concept. Carnivals need midway width — room for multiple performance areas, sightlines down a long axis, and space for crowds to move around performers rather than past them in a single file.

Jack and Dr. Oddfellow

Halloween Horror Nights 35 is themed around the Infernal Carnival of Nightmares, co-hosted by Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow.

This pairing is the anniversary event’s central creative decision, and it’s a strong one.

Jack the Clown is the most beloved original icon in HHN history. He debuted in 2000 as the face of HHN X and has returned repeatedly since. For a large portion of the HHN audience, Jack *is* Halloween Horror Nights.

Dr. Oddfellow is the more recent addition, a ringmaster-style figure whose carnival framing pairs naturally with Jack’s murderous clown persona.

Putting them together as co-hosts, in a carnival that’s “decades in the making,” is a direct nod to Jack’s own history at the event. Twenty-six years, in fact.

“Decades in the Making”

That phrase in the description is doing double duty.

In-world, it establishes the carnival as something long-planned, long-hidden, finally arriving.

Out-of-world, it’s a wink at HHN’s own 35-year run and Jack’s quarter-century as its icon.

Anniversary events work best when the theme is about the event itself, and this one is.

What to Expect in a Carnival Scare Zone

Based on the concept and HHN’s history with carnival theming:

  • Midway structures — game booths, ticket stands, striped canvas, rigged attractions that were never fair to begin with
  • Multiple performer archetypes — clowns, barkers, sideshow performers, each with distinct costuming
  • Lighting as a tool — carnival lighting is inherently uncanny. String bulbs, harsh spotlights, and color washes create shadow pockets that scare actors work from
  • Sound design — calliope music, distorted carnival organ, barker patter. Carnival audio is among the most unsettling in horror
  • Height variation — stilt walkers and elevated platforms are standard in carnival zones and they change how scares land

Planning Tips

  • Don’t rush the entrance zone. Everyone’s instinct at rope drop is to sprint to the first house. That’s correct for wait times and wrong for experience. Walk this zone properly on your way out instead.
  • Come back later. The entrance zone at 7 PM and the entrance zone at midnight are different experiences. The late-night version has fewer people and more room for the performers.
  • Photograph it early. Set pieces are easier to shoot before the crowd density peaks.
  • Go early in the season. HHN 35 opens August 28, and late August through early September is the lightest stretch of the run.
  • Multi-night passes — Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, Ultimate Frequent Fear — beat single-night tickets past two visits.
  • Express Pass add-ons are gone for Frequent Fear and Rush of Fear passes at HHN 35. Universal discontinued them this year.

The Bottom Line

Infernal Carnival of Nightmares is the first announced scare zone for Halloween Horror Nights 35, confirmed as the park’s entrance zone in Production Central/Avenue of the Stars, co-hosted by Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow.

It’s the frame around the entire 35th anniversary event, and it’s the first thing you’ll walk into every night.

Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs August 28 through November 1, 2026. Sprint past it on the way in if you must — but walk it slowly on the way out.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
