Fortnite is coming to Halloween Horror Nights. Universal confirmed a Fortnitemares-inspired scare zone for this year’s event, and the Fortnite Halloween Horror Nights collaboration debuts August 28, 2026 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The scare zone is called Freaky Fields, and yes, the Battle Bus is in it.

This is the kind of crossover that either lands perfectly or feels bolted on, and the early details suggest Universal understands the assignment. Here’s what’s inside Freaky Fields, the merchandise dropping alongside it, and where it fits in the HHN 35 lineup.

What Is Freaky Fields?

The scare zone drops guests into a Halloween-themed living battleground taken over by a threatening force.

Inside, you’ll encounter the Battle Bus alongside familiar Fortnitemares characters — plus a few new additions created exclusively for Halloween Horror Nights.

The goal, as any Fortnite player would recognize, is to escape and claim victory.

Universal describes the environments as high-stakes, putting a horror twist on the game’s signature seasonal event. Fortnitemares is Fortnite’s annual in-game Halloween event, bringing new characters and horror-themed gameplay to the title each fall.

Why This Works as a Scare Zone

Scare zones live or die on two things: a strong visual identity and enough space for scare actors to work a crowd.

Fortnite gives Universal both. The game’s Halloween event has a decade of established character designs to pull from, and the aesthetic is already loud, colorful, and instantly readable at night. You will know what you’re looking at from fifty feet away.

The Battle Bus is the smart centerpiece. It’s the single most recognizable object in the game, it’s physically large enough to anchor a street, and it photographs well — which matters more for a scare zone than people admit.

The exclusive-to-HHN characters are the detail that suggests real collaboration rather than a licensing deal. Creating new designs specifically for the event means Epic and Universal worked on this together.

Fortnitemares Merchandise Is Available Now

A Fortnitemares-inspired merchandise collection is available now at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood, with online sales launching July 23 at 9am PST at ShopUniversal.com.

The collection includes:

  • A graphic tee
  • A decal set
  • An acrylic collectible piece

The acrylic collectible is the piece worth moving on. It’s part of the Infernal Carnival collectible display line, and those pieces are designed as a set — miss one and the display is incomplete. HHN limited collectibles routinely sell out and rarely come back.

If you’re going to be in the parks anyway, buy in person. The online drop at 9am PST on July 23 is the backup, not the primary plan.

Where Freaky Fields Fits in the HHN 35 Lineup

The Fortnitemares scare zone joins a growing lineup for Halloween Horror Nights 35, which already includes confirmed haunted houses based on Stranger Things Season 5 and Evil Dead Burn.

The event is themed around the “Infernal Carnival of Nightmares,” co-hosted by iconic HHN characters Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow.

That’s a strong foundation. Jack the Clown is the most beloved original HHN icon, and pairing him with Dr. Oddfellow gives the event a carnival throughline that a Fortnite battleground actually fits inside — chaotic, colorful, and hostile.

Dates for Halloween Horror Nights 35

Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs select nights at Universal Orlando Resort from August 28 through November 1, and at Universal Studios Hollywood from September 3 through November 1.

Additional announcements are still to come.

How to Plan Around Freaky Fields

Scare zones require a different strategy than houses. A few things worth knowing:

  • Don’t rush through it. Scare zones are the one part of HHN with no line, which means people speed-walk them on the way to a house. That’s backwards. The zones are where the atmosphere lives.
  • Go through it twice. Once early when it’s quiet and you can see the sets, once late when the crowd energy peaks.
  • Scare actors work the edges. Walking down the middle of a street is the safest path and the most boring one.
  • Early nights are better. Late August and early September have noticeably lighter crowds than October, and scare zones suffer most when the streets are packed.
  • Bring a phone with battery left. The Battle Bus is going to be the photo line of the year.

The Bottom Line

The Fortnite Halloween Horror Nights collaboration brings Freaky Fields to Universal Orlando on August 28 and Universal Studios Hollywood on September 3, complete with the Battle Bus, Fortnitemares characters, and new designs made just for the event.

Grab the acrylic collectible before it’s gone, plan two passes through the zone rather than one, and go early in the season if you want room to actually see it. Between Freaky Fields, Stranger Things, and Evil Dead Burn, HHN 35 is stacking up fast.
