Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’ve been waiting for something big to happen with the Avengers Campus Expansion project, it’s finally here — Walt Disney Imagineering just confirmed that the build has gone vertical. The first steel column is now in place, marking the official next phase of bringing two brand-new attractions to life in Disney California Adventure.

A D23 Announcement Becomes Reality
Disney first revealed the Avengers Campus expansion back in August 2024 at the D23 Expo. This isn’t just a small add-on — once complete, the project will double the size of Avengers Campus and deliver two unique attractions for Marvel fans.
The expansion is taking shape in the space between Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! and Cars Land. Don’t worry — all current Avengers Campus attractions are still open and operating normally while construction moves forward.
Currently, Avengers Campus features experiences like WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, the high-energy Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!, heroic character encounters, and dining at Pym Test Kitchen. By the time the expansion opens, the land will offer a much larger footprint with more capacity for guests, more characters, and more opportunities to jump into the Marvel universe.
What Guests Can Expect to See Now
With the steel now in place, guests visiting Disney California Adventure should start spotting visible progress from within Avengers Campus. The expansion site runs along the back edge of the current land, so keep an eye out for construction cranes, framework, and new walls starting to rise behind existing buildings.
Disney is known for being intentional about how it hides active construction from guest view, so expect themed walls, concept art, and possibly small peeks over the top if you know where to look. While Disney hasn’t announced an official opening date yet, the scale of this project suggests a likely debut sometime in 2027.
The New Attractions Coming to Avengers Campus
When the expansion opens, guests will be able to suit up for two new adventures:
- Avengers Infinity Defense – A multi-world attraction where recruits team up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to stop King Thanos. The story kicks off when technology allowing the Avengers to jump between worlds is stolen. Your mission takes you to iconic Marvel locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City. Expect large-scale set pieces, advanced ride technology, and the kind of cinematic battles Marvel fans dream about — including a face-to-face encounter with King Thanos himself.
- Stark Flight Lab – A high-energy experience where you board a two-person pod in Tony Stark’s test facility. A robotic arm whirls you through a simulated flight, making you feel like a superhero in training. Robert Downey Jr. even returns as Tony Stark for this attraction.
