Terror Tram starring Art the Clown at Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2026

Art the Clown is getting the backlot. Universal Studios Hollywood announced that Art the Clown will take over the Terror Tram for Halloween Horror Nights 2026 — and he’s bringing Christmas with him.

The announcement came during the Halloween Horror Nights panel at Midsummer Scream 2026, where Creative Director John Murdy revealed the Terrifier killer will host this year’s Terror Tram experience.

Here’s the concept, the music, and what it means for the event.

Quick Summary

  • “Terror Tram starring Art the Clown” comes to Universal Studios Hollywood’s backlot
  • Art arrives with a blood-soaked bag of presents, ready to celebrate Christmas
  • He discovers he’s a few months early and hijacks the Terror Tram anyway
  • Ice Nine Kills is creating new music with a darker twist on classic Christmas songs
  • Art may also lurk elsewhere throughout the park during the event
  • HHN Hollywood begins September 3 and runs select nights through November 1

The Concept

“Terror Tram starring Art the Clown” brings Art to Universal Studios Hollywood’s historic backlot, where his arrival comes with a twisted holiday theme.

According to Universal, Art arrives with a blood-soaked bag of presents ready to celebrate Christmas — only to discover that he’s a few months early.

So instead, Art hijacks the Terror Tram and turns the backlot into his own demented holiday celebration.

Why Christmas Is the Right Call

This is a genuinely inspired premise, and it solves a specific problem with the character.

Art the Clown is a silent performer with no dialogue and no explained motivation. That works brilliantly in the Terrifier films because the lack of reason is the horror. It’s harder to sustain across a fifteen-minute tram experience, where you need environments and set pieces rather than a single confrontation.

Christmas gives the designers infinite material. Every holiday tradition has a visual vocabulary — trees, wreaths, stockings, nutcrackers, Santa, carols — and every one of them can be corrupted. Art putting a bloody spin on familiar imagery is far richer territory than another walk through a cabin.

It also plays to the character’s actual comedy. Art is funny in the films, in an appalling way. A killer clown who shows up with presents in September because he got the date wrong, then decides to celebrate anyway, is exactly the right register.

The Music

Ice Nine Kills will also be involved in the experience, creating new music for the Terror Tram that puts a “darker twist on classic Christmas songs.”

Ice Nine Kills is a horror-themed metalcore band whose entire catalogue is built around slasher films, which makes them an unusually natural fit for this event. Fans have requested their involvement in Halloween Horror Nights for years.

Corrupted Christmas carols scored by a horror metal band is the kind of collaboration that either works completely or not at all — and on paper, this works.

Art May Be Elsewhere Too

Universal also teases that Art the Clown may lurk elsewhere throughout Universal Studios Hollywood during Halloween Horror Nights, giving guests the chance to encounter him in unexpected locations.

That’s a meaningful addition. A character confined to one attraction is a set piece. A character who might appear anywhere becomes an ambient threat across the whole event.

Art is exceptionally well suited to roaming. He’s a silent, entirely physical performer — the mocking wave, the head tilt, the exaggerated delight. That translates to street work better than almost any other horror icon, because it requires no dialogue to carry in a loud, crowded environment.

Where This Fits in HHN Hollywood 2026

Terror Tram starring Art the Clown joins a growing lineup for Halloween Horror Nights 2026 at Universal Studios Hollywood, which begins Thursday, September 3 and runs select nights through Sunday, November 1.

Already confirmed for Hollywood this year:

  • Hellraiser — the franchise’s HHN debut, with Doug Bradley returning to voice Pinhead
  • Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness — a 45-year memorial house created with the Osbourne family
  • Dead, Deader, Deadest — an original house set in the Deville Family Funeral Home
  • Killer Klowns from Outer Space — returning for its third Hollywood appearance
  • Sinners — with its own merchandise collection already revealed

Art is also appearing in Orlando, as part of the Downtown Clowntown scare zone in the New York area alongside Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

Planning Tips

  • HHN Hollywood opens September 3 and runs through November 1.
  • The Terror Tram is unique to Hollywood. Orlando has no equivalent — it uses the actual Studio Tour backlot, which Orlando doesn’t have.
  • Go early in the season. September weeknights have the lightest crowds of the run.
  • The Early Access Ticket gets you into select houses from 5:30pm and is the best single-night add-on.
  • Terror Tram is a walking experience. You ride the tram out and walk portions of the backlot, so wear appropriate shoes.
  • Watch for Art elsewhere. If he’s roaming, encounters will happen away from the tram.

The Bottom Line

Terror Tram starring Art the Clown brings the Terrifier killer to Universal Studios Hollywood’s backlot for Halloween Horror Nights 2026, with Art arriving months early for Christmas and hijacking the tram to stage his own bloody holiday celebration.

Ice Nine Kills is providing darker takes on classic Christmas songs, and Art may appear elsewhere in the park throughout the night.
