Disney Accelerator 2026: Park Robots, AI Tools, and Trip Planning

Reading Time: 5 minutes
Disney Accelerator 2026 startup companies

Every year, Disney picks a small group of startups to work with teams across the company, and every year a few of those projects hint at where the parks are headed. The Disney Accelerator 2026 class just had its Demo Day on the Walt Disney Studios lot, and two of the five startups are working on robots for the parks.

FieldAI is exploring robots for parking operations. Physical Intelligence is working with Walt Disney Imagineering on a robot that handles 3D glasses between shows. And a third company, Simile, is working with Walt Disney World on how guests plan their visits.

None of this is a ride announcement. Disney calls much of this work exploratory. But it’s a useful look at the technology Disney is testing behind the scenes. Here’s what each company is doing and what it could mean for your next trip.

Quick Summary

  • The 2026 Disney Accelerator Demo Day featured five startups: Promise, OpenArt, FieldAI, Physical Intelligence, and Simile
  • FieldAI is exploring robots for parking operations and possible future character-based robotic experiences
  • Physical Intelligence (Pi) is working with Imagineering on robots for repetitive backstage tasks, like handling 3D glasses
  • Simile is working with Walt Disney World on insights that could simplify how guests plan a visit
  • Promise and OpenArt focused on filmmaking and music video tools
  • Two 2025 companies returned, including Haddy, which 3D-prints set pieces with Imagineering
  • Disney describes the robotics work as exploratory, not an announcement of new attractions

What Is the Disney Accelerator?

The Disney Accelerator is a four-month program that pairs startups with teams across the company. It’s now in its 12th year. Each cohort spends that time working on real projects with Disney, then shows off the results at Demo Day.

This year’s cohort has five companies:

  • Promise
  • OpenArt
  • FieldAI
  • Physical Intelligence
  • Simile

For theme park fans, the robotics and guest planning projects are the ones to watch.

FieldAI: Robots for Parking Lots

FieldAI builds general-purpose robot intelligence designed to operate safely in environments that keep changing. It’s working with Disney Experiences Technology and Walt Disney Imagineering R&D.

Together, they’re exploring how robots could support parking operations across complex terrain and unpredictable weather. Disney says that could improve the work environment for Cast Members and give guests a more consistent experience.

There’s a more exciting angle too. Imagineering R&D is also looking at whether FieldAI’s situational awareness and navigation could inform future character-based robotic experiences in the parks. That’s the kind of detail that gets fans talking. Disney has been pushing hard on free-roaming robotic characters in recent years, and navigation is one of the hardest problems to solve in a crowded park.

Disney is clear that this work is exploratory and not necessarily an announcement of things to come.

Physical Intelligence: Backstage Helpers

Physical Intelligence, which goes by Pi, is working with Imagineering on adaptable robots for repetitive backstage tasks.

Disney’s example is a good one: handling and arranging 3D glasses for cleaning between shows. If you’ve ever watched a 3D attraction, you know how many pairs of glasses move through those theaters every day. Disney says the goal is to give Cast Members more time for guest interactions.

That’s the right way to frame robotics in the parks. Nobody goes to Walt Disney World hoping to interact with a machine that sorts glasses. But if that machine frees up a Cast Member to help a family or chat with a kid, everybody wins.

Simile: How You Plan Your Disney World Trip

This is the one that could touch your vacation most directly. Simile, which Disney calls a consumer intelligence and decision-support company, is working with Disney Experiences and Walt Disney World on insights that could simplify how guests plan a visit.

Disney points to a few places where small details shape how guests plan:

  • Product names and descriptions
  • The broader digital experience, like the website and app

According to Disney, Simile is helping Walt Disney World analyze guest insights with advanced analytics and decision-support tools. The goal is to improve how data is collected and interpreted, so teams can refine concepts earlier in development.

Here’s my take: anyone who has tried to explain Lightning Lane options to a first-timer knows Disney World planning can feel complicated. If this work leads to clearer product names and simpler explanations, that’s a real win for guests. It’s not flashy, but it matters.

The Creative Companies

The other two startups focused on filmmaking and music.

  • Promise demonstrated hybrid filmmaking with Walt Disney Studios. A live actor performed in a grey box environment, and an artist then brought that performance into different story environments.
  • OpenArt announced a collaboration with Disney Music Group. Its tools help creative teams explore visual concepts for lyric videos. Disney says teams can generate and evaluate multiple concepts in hours rather than weeks.

Disney Accelerator General Manager Bonnie Rosen said: “This year’s cohort brought advanced domain expertise, but even more importantly, grounded every conversation with a clear point of view on how these technologies can work responsibly for people.”

Returning 2025 Companies

Two members of the 2025 cohort came back to show their progress.

  • Haddy showed 3D-printed set pieces and prototypes made with Imagineering. They included a replica of a prop canoe currently installed in the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland Resort and a King Louie throne currently at Shanghai Disney Resort. The exhibit also had rock facades and themed light fixtures.
  • Animaj demonstrated FlipMove, its animation workflow. It’s now in production on Ozzy Fox, a series co-developed with Disney Jr. After the show launched on YouTube, Animaj and Disney Jr. started production on Season 2.

The Haddy work is a quiet but important one for park fans. 3D-printed theming could make it faster to build, repair, and replace detailed set pieces across the parks.

What This Means for the Parks

None of these projects is a new ride or a confirmed change you’ll see on your next trip. But they show what Disney is testing:

  • Robots that help behind the scenes, so Cast Members can spend more time with guests
  • Better navigation tech that could one day support robotic characters
  • Simpler trip planning through clearer names, descriptions, and digital tools
  • Faster theming through 3D printing

It also fits a bigger pattern of Disney exploring AI and robotics for the guest experience, like the recent Disney AI character voice patent that would let costumed characters talk with guests in real time.

The Bottom Line

Disney Accelerator 2026 gave us a look at robots for parking lots, backstage helpers that handle 3D glasses, and new tools that could make Disney World trip planning simpler. Disney calls the robotics work exploratory, so don’t expect to see these robots on your next visit.

Still, it’s a clear sign of where Disney is putting its energy. The best outcome here is technology you barely notice, like a clearer app or a Cast Member with more time to chat. We’ll keep an eye on whether any of these projects make their way into the parks.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
