If you’ve ever typed “high floor, please” into a Disney room request and hoped for the best, this update is for you. Disney has expanded room requests in My Disney Experience, and the options are now tailored to the resort you’ve booked. Instead of generic choices, you’ll see actual section names, proximity preferences, and bed types that match your resort and room category.
Room requests still aren’t guaranteed. But the new options make it a lot easier to ask for something the room assignment team can actually act on.
Quick Summary
- My Disney Experience room requests now show resort-specific options, including section names, proximity choices, and bed types.
- You can submit up to two room requests, which appear to work as “either/or” preferences.
- A new “Prioritize Room Readiness” checkbox tells Disney you’d rather have the first available room than one that matches your requests.
- Options are filtered by room category, so Standard View guests won’t see Preferred sections.
- Requests are still not guaranteed.

What’s New in Room Requests
When you open room requests in My Disney Experience, you’ll see two things at the top of the screen.
Prioritize Room Readiness
This checkbox tells Disney you want the first available room, even if it doesn’t match any request you’ve submitted. It’s a trade-off: early access over location. If you’re arriving early and want to drop your bags and get to the parks, or if you have tired kids who need a nap, this is the box to check.
Two Request Slots
You can now submit up to two room attributes. Based on how the app behaves, these appear to work as “OR” conditions. Disney will try to place you in a room that matches either preference, not necessarily both. So pick the two things that matter most, and don’t count on getting both.
Options Depend on Your Resort
The biggest change is that the choices you see now depend on where you’re staying and which room type you booked.
At Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, for example, guests in standard rooms may see options like:
- Aruba
- Jamaica
- Martinique Section
- Barbados Section
- Ground Floor
- Higher Floor
- Near Bus Stop
- Near Skyliner
At a Value resort with distinct sections, the options reflect that resort’s layout. At Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, for example, you may see the Country Fair Section or the Rock Inn Section, along with King Bed, Ground Floor, and Higher Floor.
If you’ve booked a Standard View room, you won’t see Preferred section options in your dropdown. The list is filtered to match what’s actually available for your room category, which keeps you from requesting something Disney can’t give you.
Why This Matters
Room requests have never been guaranteed, and that hasn’t changed. But more specific, resort-relevant options make your request more useful to the room assignment team. Choosing “Near Skyliner” at Caribbean Beach is far more actionable than a vague note about being close to transportation.
It also cuts down on guesswork. Before, you had to know a resort’s layout to write a good request. Now the app shows you the sections and features that actually exist at your hotel.
How to Choose Your Requests
Here’s how we’d think about it, depending on what matters most to your group:
- Early arrival or a short trip: Check Prioritize Room Readiness. Getting into a room sooner beats a perfect location.
- Transportation matters: At resorts like Caribbean Beach, request “Near Skyliner” or “Near Bus Stop,” depending on how you’ll get around most.
- Mobility or a stroller: “Ground Floor” saves you from waiting on elevators or carrying gear up stairs.
- Light sleeper: “Higher Floor” can mean less foot traffic noise outside your door.
- Couples: “King Bed” is worth requesting at resorts where it’s offered, since many standard rooms have two queens.
- Theme fans: Pick the section you’re most excited about, like a specific music or island area.
If location matters, leave Prioritize Room Readiness unchecked and use both request slots.
When to Submit Your Requests
The expanded options are available now in the My Disney Experience app ahead of your stay. It’s a good idea to set your requests well before arrival, since room assignments are often made in the days leading up to check-in. You can usually find room requests alongside online check-in for your resort reservation in the app.
Keep Your Expectations Realistic
Even with better options, demand can make some requests impossible. Popular sections, peak travel dates, and full resorts all limit what Disney can do. If you get your request, great. If you don’t, it’s not a reflection of anything you did wrong. And if a request is truly essential, such as an accessibility need, call Disney directly rather than relying on the app alone.
The Bottom Line
Room requests in My Disney Experience are now much more useful. You’ll see resort-specific section names, proximity choices, and bed types, you can submit up to two requests, and a new Prioritize Room Readiness checkbox lets you choose early access over location. Requests still aren’t guaranteed, but choosing specific, realistic options gives you a much better shot. Open the app, set your preferences before your trip, and decide up front whether location or an early room matters more.
