Indiana Jones Theater Permit Runs Through 2027: What It Means

Reading Time: 4 minutes
Indiana Jones Theater Permit

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular has been thrilling Hollywood Studios guests since 1989. Now a new permit suggests some serious work is coming to its theater.

A new Indiana Jones Theater permit, a Notice of Commencement, was recorded on October 14, 2026. It names Coastal Steel as the contractor, lists the scope as general construction, and runs until October 5, 2027. That’s almost a full year.

Disney hasn’t announced any closures for the show. But the contractor and the timeline make this one worth watching, especially with Project Fedora rising right next door.

Here’s what the permit says, what it could mean, and how it might affect your next visit to Hollywood Studios.

Quick Summary

  • New permit: A Notice of Commencement for the Indiana Jones Theater, recorded October 14, 2026.
  • Owner: Disney’s Facility Asset Management (FAM) division.
  • Contractor: Coastal Steel.
  • Scope: General construction.
  • Expires: October 5, 2027.
  • Closures: None announced.

What the Indiana Jones Theater Permit Shows

The permit is owned by Disney’s Facility Asset Management division, often called FAM. That’s an important detail. FAM permits usually cover maintenance and upkeep rather than brand-new development. Imagineering-led projects, by contrast, typically point to guest-facing changes.

The contractor is Coastal Steel. The Indiana Jones Theater is packed with structural steel, from the covered outdoor seating area to the show’s large set pieces. So there’s no shortage of steel for a company like this to work on.

What makes it notable is that Coastal Steel tends to handle bigger, more substantial structural jobs. Pair that with a permit window of nearly a year, and this looks like more than a quick touch-up.

Why the Indiana Jones Theater Might Need Steel Work

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular has run at Hollywood Studios for more than three decades. That’s a long time for any outdoor structure in Florida, where heat, humidity, and summer storms are tough on metal.

The show itself also puts real stress on its sets. Explosions, falling props, and moving set pieces are part of every performance. Keeping all of that safe and reliable means regular structural inspections and repairs.

That makes a maintenance-focused steel project easy to believe. It doesn’t need to signal a big change to the show to make sense.

Could This Be Tied to Project Fedora?

Right next to the theater, at the show’s exit, is the Project Fedora construction site. Steel framework has been rising there, and WDWMAGIC describes it as a playground.

It’s possible this new permit is connected. But WDWMAGIC notes that Coastal Steel’s involvement would be unusual for playground construction, since the company usually handles more significant structural work. That suggests the two projects may be separate.

There’s another piece of the puzzle. Earlier this year, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit to install signage at the Indiana Jones Theater. That filing pointed to a guest-facing change, possibly tied to Project Fedora.

For the full backstory, see our Project Fedora construction update.

A Quick Look at the Show

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular opened in 1989, the same year the park debuted as Disney-MGM Studios. It recreates big moments from Raiders of the Lost Ark, including the temple escape with the rolling boulder, a fight through a crowded street market, and an explosive finale around a desert airplane.

Along the way, the stunt team shows you how movie stunts are staged and filmed. It’s one of the longest-running shows at Hollywood Studios and a big part of why the theater’s structure gets so much wear.

Will the Indiana Jones Stunt Show Close?

Not as far as we know. Disney hasn’t announced any closures for the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

That said, a permit that runs into October 2027 leaves room for a few possibilities:

  • Work around the schedule. Crews could work overnight or between shows, with no closure at all.
  • Short refurbishments. The show could close for brief stretches while specific sections get repaired.
  • A longer refurbishment. Less likely based on what we know today, but a year-long permit doesn’t rule it out.

If you’re planning a Hollywood Studios trip, check the official refurbishment calendar and the My Disney Experience app before your visit.

Tips for Seeing the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

  • Check showtimes in the app. The show runs on a set schedule, and times can change.
  • Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early. It’s a large theater, but popular shows fill up, especially midday.
  • Sit in the shade. The theater is covered, but some seats get more sun than others depending on the time of day.
  • Volunteer if you’re brave. The show picks guests from the audience to be extras. Sit near the front and look enthusiastic.
  • Use it as a rest break. It’s a great way to sit down for about 30 minutes during a busy park day.

The Bottom Line

A new Indiana Jones Theater permit at Hollywood Studios names Coastal Steel as contractor for general construction and runs through October 5, 2027. Because it’s owned by Disney’s Facility Asset Management division, it most likely points to structural maintenance rather than a major change to the show. It may or may not be tied to Project Fedora next door, and Disney hasn’t announced any closures. Keep checking DisMornings for updates as work gets underway.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
