Universal Studios Hollywood just locked in its holiday dates, and there is one genuinely new thing on the list.
The 2026 Universal Studios Hollywood holiday celebrations run daily from November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027, and every bit of it is included with regular theme park admission. No separate ticket, no upcharge event. Grinchmas comes back to Universal Plaza, Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter returns to Hogsmeade, and Illumination’s Merry Minions debuts in Minion Land for the first time.
That is 44 days of programming spread across five areas of the resort, including CityWalk. If you have done a Hollywood holiday visit before, Merry Minions is the only thing you have not seen, and I will tell you exactly what is changing versus repeating.
Below: every element by land, the two nighttime shows worth staying for, and the timing advice that actually matters once you factor in Christmas-week crowds.

Dates, Admission, and What the Universal Studios Hollywood Holiday Celebrations Cost
Start here, because this is the part that separates it from the park’s other seasonal event.
The celebrations run daily from November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027 and are included with regular theme park admission. There is no separate holiday ticket.
That matters more than it sounds. Halloween Horror Nights is a separate paid event at Universal Studios Hollywood. The holidays are not. If you hold a day ticket or an annual pass that works on your date, you already have access to everything described below.
The November 21 start also lands before Thanksgiving, which gives you a genuine early-season window. Late November weekdays are the cheapest and quietest way to see all of this.

Grinchmas in Universal Plaza
Grinchmas is the anchor, and it takes over Universal Plaza entirely, turning the area into a Who-ville celebration.
The centerpiece is a 65-foot-tall Christmas tree decorated with hundreds of ornaments and thousands of LED lights. Each evening the tree comes to life during a lighting ceremony, complete with a flurry of snowfall.
Here is the practical note on that: the lighting happens every evening, not on select nights. You do not need to plan around a specific date to catch it. You do need to still be in the park after dark.
Character meets include the Grinch himself, his dog Max, and Who-ville residents throughout the celebration.
Grinchmas Entertainment and Activities
The live entertainment lineup:
- Cindy-Lou Who reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- Musical performances by The Fah-Who 4 A’s
- The nightly tree lighting ceremony with snowfall
There is also a hands-on side that works well with younger kids. Guests can visit the Who-ville post office to send the Grinch a postcard listing three good deeds they have done, and decorate a Grinchmas paper ornament. Seasonal treats and exclusive Grinchmas merchandise are available for purchase.
One clarification worth making, because it trips people up in search results: Universal Orlando runs its own separate Grinchmas at Islands of Adventure. Everything on this page is the Hollywood version. The two are not the same event and the details do not transfer.
Illumination’s Merry Minions: The Only New Addition
If you have been to a Hollywood holiday season before, this is your reason to go back.
Merry Minions is new for 2026 and debuts in Minion Land, bringing festive decorations and holiday overlay to the area. The Minions appear in special holiday attire for seasonal meet-and-greets, which is the kind of thing that sells out a photo line fast when it is brand new.
Minion Cafe will offer holiday-inspired food and beverages, and a new Merry Minions merchandise collection launches alongside it.
Being blunt about scale: a land overlay with decorations, costumed meets, seasonal menu items, and a merch line is a solid addition, but it is an overlay rather than a new attraction. Set expectations accordingly. The value here is that Minion Land gets a reason to visit in December rather than being the same stop it is in July.
Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Hogsmeade gets dressed for the season again, and this remains the most atmospheric part of the whole event.
Festive garlands, wreaths, and twinkling lights decorate the village. The Frog Choir performs seasonal songs throughout the day. Hot Butterbeer is available, and the village shops stock holiday gifts and merchandise.
The nighttime highlight returns: The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, a projection show that transforms the castle with holiday imagery and festive scenes set to music from the Harry Potter films.
Practical read on Hogsmeade: hot Butterbeer and a decorated village are a daytime-into-evening experience, but the projection show needs full dark. In Southern California in December that means roughly 5 pm onward. Build your evening around it.
Super Nintendo World Gets Decorated
The newest land on the lot joins in, though more lightly than the others.
Seasonal decorations go up throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. The land’s entrance features Mario and Luigi snowmen alongside a decorated Christmas tree topped with a shining Super Star, which is a genuinely good photo spot.
Holiday merchandise will be available across the park, including at the 1-UP Factory shop inside Super Nintendo World.
No announced seasonal show or character overlay here, so treat Super Nintendo World as a decor stop rather than a destination for the holidays specifically. Still worth routing through if you were going anyway.
Universal CityWalk Hollywood
The celebration spills outside the gates, and this part is free to anyone who comes to the complex.
A 40-foot Christmas tree with more than 200,000 LED lights anchors CityWalk’s seasonal decorations. On select evenings the 5 Towers stage hosts live music, DJ performances, and interactive street entertainment.
The Universal Studios Store carries a new holiday merchandise collection: apparel, accessories, collectibles, ornaments, and home decor inspired by Universal franchises and the seasonal experiences themselves.
Note the wording difference. The CityWalk stage programming runs on select evenings, unlike the nightly Grinchmas tree lighting. Universal has not published that schedule, so check before you plan an evening around the 5 Towers lineup.
How I Would Actually Plan This
Four things worth deciding before you book.
Go late November or early December if you can. The event starts November 21 and runs through January 3. The stretch between Christmas and New Year is the single busiest window of the year at Universal Studios Hollywood, and every element above is more pleasant at half the crowd level.
Stay past dark, non-negotiable. Two of the best pieces are nighttime-only: the Grinchmas tree lighting with snowfall and The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle. A day visit that ends at 4 pm misses both.
Hit Merry Minions early in your day. New meet-and-greets draw the longest lines, and this one has no track record to judge wait times against.
Budget for merchandise, not tickets. Admission covers the experiences. The spend here is Grinchmas treats, the Merry Minions collection, Hogsmeade shops, 1-UP Factory, and the Universal Studios Store at CityWalk. There are five separate merchandise pushes in this announcement.
The Bottom Line
The Universal Studios Hollywood holiday celebrations run daily from November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027, included with regular theme park admission. Grinchmas returns to Universal Plaza with its 65-foot tree and nightly lighting ceremony, Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter brings back the Frog Choir and The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, Super Nintendo World gets Mario and Luigi snowmen, and CityWalk puts up a 40-foot tree with over 200,000 lights.
Illumination’s Merry Minions in Minion Land is the only genuinely new element, and it is an overlay rather than an attraction.
Go on a weekday before mid-December, stay until after dark for the two nighttime shows, and do the Minions meet first. That is the whole playbook.
