A full Magic of Disney Animation walkthrough video is out, and it is the most complete look at the building we have had. It also reveals two things nobody had mentioned before: MagicBand+ integration built into the attraction, and a sixth space called The Gallery Wrap Party.
Every previous preview described five experiences. This walkthrough shows six.
Quick heads-up before you scroll: this covers hidden details and specific Easter eggs. If you would rather find them yourself on September 14, stop here.
Quick Summary
- A full walkthrough video of The Magic of Disney Animation is now available
- MagicBand+ interactions are built in, with Baymax, Maximus, and the Kakamora from Moana responding to guests
- The Gallery Wrap Party is a previously unannounced space with film artifacts and props
- Hidden Easter eggs include Stitch in an animator’s office and Mushu playing Fix-It Felix Jr.
- Animation artwork comes to life through a signature pixie dust effect
- The Magic of Disney Animation opens September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
MagicBand+ Is Built Into the Attraction
This is the headline, and it had not been announced.
Interactive MagicBand+ experiences are built into The Magic of Disney Animation, with characters responding to guests as they move through the space. The walkthrough shows Baymax, Maximus from Tangled, and the Kakamora from Moana reacting to band wearers.
That changes the calculation on whether MagicBand+ is worth it for your trip. Its value has always depended on how many attractions actually use it, and this adds a brand-new building to that list on day one.
If you own a MagicBand+, charge it before you go. If you have been undecided, this is a real point in favor.
The Gallery Wrap Party
Here is the space nobody had mentioned. The Gallery Wrap Party is a dedicated area featuring artifacts and memorabilia from Disney animated films, alongside iconic props inspired by classics including Cinderella, Moana, and The Aristocats.
Every preview until now listed five experiences: Olaf Draws!, Off the Page!, Once Upon A Studio Theater, Drawn to Wonderland, and the Enchanted Art Gallery. The Gallery Wrap Party makes six.
For anyone who came to this building for the animation history rather than the character greetings, this may end up being the best room in it.
The Easter Eggs Worth Hunting
The walkthrough catches details most guests would walk straight past.
Stitch is hiding in an animator’s office. Given that the animator’s office is already packed with real artifacts from Disney Animation history, this is a detail inside a detail.
Mushu is playing the Fix-It Felix Jr. arcade game. A Mulan character playing the arcade cabinet from Wreck-It Ralph is exactly the kind of cross-film joke that rewards a slow second visit.
Artwork That Comes to Life
Animation artwork featuring characters from The Princess and the Frog, Pocahontas, and others is displayed throughout the building. Select pieces are animated through what the walkthrough calls the experience’s signature pixie dust effect.
The practical note: if the effect triggers on select pieces rather than all of them, some artwork will animate and some will not. Do not stand and wait at every frame. Watch for which ones activate.
Everything Inside the Building
The walkthrough covers all the main areas:
- The atrium courtyard entrance, where Disney characters welcome guests with an Open House invitation
- Once Upon A Studio Theater, screening the short with enhanced in-theater effects
- Drawn to Wonderland, the Alice in Wonderland-inspired indoor playground for younger guests
- Off the Page!, character greetings with Rapunzel, Mulan, Stitch, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy
- Olaf Draws!, the drawing class hosted by the all-new Audio-Animatronics Olaf
- The Gallery Wrap Party, with film artifacts and props
- Animation artwork exhibits and interactive MagicBand+ moments throughout
That Off the Page! lineup is worth noting on its own. Seven characters across one greeting area is a lot, and they are split across sections themed to different stages of the animation process.
How to Plan Around This
Bring a charged MagicBand+. It now unlocks content in this building that you cannot see without one.
Budget for six spaces, not five. The Gallery Wrap Party was not in anyone’s plan until today.
Do not rush the artwork. The pixie dust effect is easy to miss if you treat the gallery areas as hallways between the bigger experiences.
Plan two visits if you can. Between the Easter eggs, the MagicBand+ interactions, and six distinct spaces, one pass through on opening weekend will not cover it.
If you want the deeper version of the hidden details, Walt Disney Imagineering has published its own Easter egg tour of the building, which goes room by room. Our first look at the interior covers the Olaf animatronic and the playground.
The Bottom Line
This Magic of Disney Animation walkthrough delivers two genuine reveals: MagicBand+ interactions with Baymax, Maximus, and the Kakamora, and a sixth space in The Gallery Wrap Party that nobody knew was coming.
The building opens September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Charge your MagicBand+, give yourself more time than you planned, and accept that you are not catching everything on the first visit. That appears to be the point.
