The doors are open, just not to you yet. Magic of Disney Animation previews are underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with Cast Members walking through the building ahead of the September 14, 2026 public opening.

Something else happened today worth noting. Senior Walt Disney World leadership was spotted exiting the building, including park Vice Presidents alongside senior figures from Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment.

That is a heavier turnout than a routine walkthrough. Here is what the preview schedule looks like, what is actually opening inside, and why the next few days matter if you want to see the interior before opening day.

Quick Summary

  • Cast Member previews are underway at The Magic of Disney Animation
  • The attraction opens to the public September 14, 2026
  • Senior Walt Disney World, Imagineering, and Disney Live Entertainment leadership visited the building
  • Media and social media influencer previews are scheduled this week
  • Five distinct experiences open inside the building
  • The building is inspired by the real Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank

What the Preview Schedule Tells You

Cast Member previews are the last operational step before a public opening. They exist to run the building at real capacity with real people, and they typically start about a week out.

Starting them now for a September 14 opening puts this project exactly on schedule.

The leadership visit is the more interesting detail. Park Vice Presidents turning up alongside senior Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment figures on the same day suggests this opening carries more internal weight than a typical attraction debut.

Media and influencer previews are scheduled this week. That is the part you can act on. A lot more of the interior should become visible in the coming days, so if you want to see inside before the 14th, this week is when the footage arrives.

Everything Opening September 14

The Magic of Disney Animation brings five experiences together under one roof.

  • Olaf Draws! — Drawing classes hosted by an all-new Audio-Animatronics Olaf, with instruction from real Disney Animation artists across nine rotating characters.
  • Off the Page! — Character meet-and-greet spaces themed around the animation process, featuring Mulan, Rapunzel, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Donald and Daisy, Goofy, and Stitch.
  • Once Upon A Studio Theater — A dedicated theater showing the Emmy Award-winning short film with enhanced effects.
  • Drawn to Wonderland — An indoor playground for children ages 6 months to 5 years, inspired by Mary Blair’s Alice in Wonderland concept art.
  • Enchanted Art Gallery — Curated Disney Animation artwork that springs to life.

That is an unusually broad slate for one building. Most Hollywood Studios additions do one thing. This does five, and they target different audiences: young kids, character hunters, animation fans, and people who just want to sit down.

The Building Itself

The building is inspired by the real Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California, and is themed around the Once Upon A Studio short film.

That is a specific and deliberate choice. Rather than inventing a generic animation studio, Imagineering recreated the actual working building where Disney animation happens. It is the same instinct behind the animator’s office inside, where Imagineering used real artifacts rather than reproductions.

Planning for Opening Day

Here is the practical advice for September 14 and the weeks after.

Expect crowds on opening day. A five-experience building debuting at Hollywood Studios will draw a line, and Animation Courtyard has been quiet for years. That changes overnight.

Go early or go late. First hour after park open or the last two hours of the night. Midday will be the worst of it.

Prioritize inside the building. You may not get all five in one visit on a busy day. Olaf Draws! is the one most likely to have a real wait, since it is a timed class rather than a walkthrough.

Bring young kids on a second visit, not opening day. Drawn to Wonderland is built for ages 6 months to 5 years, and an opening-day crowd is the wrong environment for that age group.

Wait a week if you can. Opening-day crowds at Hollywood Studios settle noticeably after the first weekend, and nothing about this building rewards being first through the door.

The Bottom Line

Magic of Disney Animation previews are running now, leadership has walked the building, and media previews land this week. Everything points to a September 14 opening that stays on schedule.

Watch for interior footage over the next few days if you want a real look before you go. Between the Cast Member previews already happening and press previews scheduled this week, the building is about to stop being a mystery.

If you are visiting Hollywood Studios after the 14th, plan for it properly. Five experiences under one roof is a lot to fit into a park day that already has Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror on it.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
