Flying Door Coaster Track Sections

The Monsters, Inc. flying door coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios just hit a major construction milestone. The first coaster track sections have arrived at Walt Disney World and are now visible from the Disney Skyliner gondola, spotted in the EPCOT staging area. This signals the project is moving from foundation work into active track installation. Here’s what this means and where things stand.

Quick Summary

  • First coaster track pieces for the Monsters, Inc. flying door coaster have arrived at Walt Disney World
  • Track sections are visible from the Disney Skyliner in the EPCOT staging area
  • Support columns are already installed vertically at the Hollywood Studios construction site
  • The curved track profile confirms a suspended coaster — ride vehicles hang below the track
  • This will be Disney’s first suspended coaster
  • No opening date has been announced for Monstropolis

Track Sections Spotted in the EPCOT Staging Area

Fan account @sanremored.bsky.social on Bluesky spotted and shared the photo showing curved steel track sections with support spine elements sitting in the outdoor EPCOT staging area. This is the same staging location that previously held the cylindrical steel support columns that have since been installed vertically at the Hollywood Studios Monstropolis construction site.

If you’re riding the Disney Skyliner and know where to look, you can catch a glimpse of these track pieces from the gondola. The Skyliner route passes close enough to the EPCOT staging area that construction materials stored there are visible to guests.

What This Milestone Means for the Construction Timeline

The arrival of track sections is a significant step. With the support columns already in the ground and foundation work complete at the Hollywood Studios site, the Monsters, Inc. flying door coaster is now transitioning into the vertical build phase — meaning actual track installation should be the next major visible milestone at the construction zone.

The sequence is playing out as expected: staging area gets materials, materials get moved to the construction site, steel goes up. Track installation typically follows quickly once sections are staged on property.

What the Monsters Inc Flying Door Coaster Will Be

The curved profile of the track sections is consistent with a suspended coaster system — where ride vehicles hang beneath the track rather than sitting on top of it. This matches what Disney has told us: the Monsters, Inc. coaster will be Disney’s first suspended coaster, sending guests through the iconic door vault scene from the film.

The door vault sequence in Monsters, Inc. is one of the most visually dynamic scenes in the movie — doors flying through enormous chambers, Mike and Sulley chasing Boo through a system that stretches endlessly. A suspended coaster that lets you glide underneath and through that environment is exactly the right format for it.

No Opening Date Yet for Monstropolis

Disney has not announced an opening date for Monstropolis or the Monsters, Inc. flying door coaster. The track arriving on property is progress, but coaster construction, testing, and soft opening phases can take significant time after track installation is complete.

What’s clear is that this project is moving. Track on property means the build is progressing, and the next time you’re on the Skyliner near the EPCOT staging area, keep an eye out — you might catch a glimpse of history being assembled before it ever opens.
