Where You’ll Find Your Key to the World Card

Upon boarding, you’ll find your Key to the World Card waiting for you in a sealed envelope, tucked neatly into a fish extender outside your stateroom door. Each member of your party will receive one, and yes, it’s personalized just for you.

What Does the Key to the World Card Look Like?

Think of it like a credit card. It’s about the same size and shape, but the details printed on it make it much more useful:

• Your name
• Ship’s name (so you’ll never forget where you’re staying)
• Sailing dates (important for knowing when to leave the buffet line)
• Muster assembly station (the spot you head to in an emergency)
• Adult or minor indicator (A for adult, M for minor)
• Castaway Club number (Disney’s loyalty program for cruisers, blacked out in the image above)
• Disney bus transfers: If you booked a bus transfer from the port to the airport or resort, this will be noted. For example, “PA” means you’ve reserved a Port to Airport transfer.

What Does It Do?

This little card is basically your onboard superhero. Here’s how you’ll be using it:

• Stateroom Access: Tap to unlock your door.
• ID for Embarkation & Debarkation: Show it when you enter or leave the ship.
• Charge Card: Shopping onboard? Use your card to charge purchases in shops and lounges.
• Laundry Credits: Want clean clothes? Use your card to buy washer/dryer credits in the onboard laundry.
• Photo Linking: Every magical photo taken onboard is linked to your account through this card.

DisneyBand+ – A New Option (But Not for Everything)

Disney Cruise Line also offers the DisneyBand+ (available for purchase) as an alternative to the Key to the World Card. You can use it for almost everything except a few key tasks—like reboarding the ship at certain ports or buying laundry credits. So, no matter how sleek that band looks on your wrist, always bring your Key to the World Card when you disembark.

Special Touches for Special Guests

Most Key to the World Cards come in a light blue color, but if you’re staying in a concierge room or fall into a special guest category, your card might look a little different (and a little fancier!).

Keep It Close

Guests usually wear their cards on a lanyard around their neck for easy access, but you can also tuck it into your pocket or store it in a phone wallet. It’s convenient and ensures you’re not caught without it.

The Fine Print

Here’s what’s written on the back of your card, in case you’re a details person:
“Must be used by the same person at all times. The Key to the World Card is issued at check-in for each member of your party. Please safeguard this card at all times. Your Key to the World Card must be shown, along with a legal picture ID for guests ages 18 and over, any time you embark or debark your Disney Cruise Line ship. Please notify a Guest Services representative immediately if your card is lost or stolen.”

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions.
