This one is going to cost regulars real money. Universal Orlando confirmed it has discontinued all Frequent Fear with Express Pass options for Halloween Horror Nights 35, ending a long-running option that let guests pair Express access with multi-night tickets.

The HHN 35 Express Pass change means if you buy Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, or Ultimate Frequent Fear, you can no longer add Express to that ticket.

Here’s exactly what changed, what still works, and what it does to your budget.

Quick Summary

  • All Fear with Express Pass products have been discontinued for HHN 35
  • Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, and Ultimate Frequent Fear can no longer add Express
  • Standard nightly Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes are not affected
  • Single-night ticket holders can still purchase a separate Express Pass, subject to availability
  • HHN 35 runs select nights August 28 through November 1, 2026

What Universal Said

In a statement, Universal said:

“As we continue to evaluate our offerings in an effort to provide the best Halloween Horror Nights experience for all Guests, we have discontinued all Fear with Express Pass products. Other Fear pass options will go on sale soon.”

That’s corporate phrasing for a decision that has a real effect on how regulars attend this event.

What Changed

The change means guests purchasing Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, or Ultimate Frequent Fear passes will no longer have the option to add Express to their ticket, as they did in previous years.

What did not change: the decision does not affect standard nightly Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes. Guests attending with a single-night ticket can still purchase a separate Express Pass, subject to availability.

So Express still exists. It just can’t be bundled with a multi-night pass anymore.

What This Actually Costs You

Here’s the practical arithmetic, and it isn’t pretty for frequent attendees.

Previously: buy a Frequent Fear pass with Express bundled, and Express access applied across your eligible nights. One purchase, covered.

Now: buy a Frequent Fear pass, then buy a separate nightly Express Pass for each night you want Express.

HHN nightly Express Passes are among the most expensive add-ons at Universal Orlando, with pricing that varies by date and can run well into the triple digits on peak nights.

If you were attending six nights with bundled Express, you’re now looking at six separate Express purchases. The math gets ugly fast.

Who This Hurts Most

Local passholders and multi-night regulars. The bundled Express product existed precisely for people attending many nights, and those people just lost their most economical path to Express access.

Anyone attending October Fridays and Saturdays. Those are the nights when Express matters most because standby lines are at their worst, and they’re also the nights when nightly Express pricing peaks.

Who This Doesn’t Affect

Single-night guests. If you’re doing one night with a ticket and an Express Pass, nothing changes for you.

Early-season attendees. If you’re going in late August or early September on weeknights, standby waits are manageable enough that Express is less essential.

Should You Still Buy a Multi-Night Pass?

Yes, for most people. The passes still represent strong value on admission alone.

Available options include Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, and Ultimate Frequent Fear.

The strategy that now makes the most sense:

  • Buy the multi-night pass for admission. Per-night cost is still far below single-night pricing.
  • Go on weeknights, early in the season. That’s how you avoid needing Express at all.
  • Buy Express selectively. Pick one or two peak nights where it genuinely pays off rather than blanket coverage.
  • Arrive at park open. The first hour of any event night has the shortest waits of the night, Express or not.
  • Use the shows. Lagoon shows and Nightmare Fuel pull thousands out of house queues. Running houses during showtimes is free Express.

Why Universal Might Have Done This

Universal’s statement doesn’t explain the reasoning, so this is inference.

The most likely explanation is Express capacity. Express only works if the number of Express users stays low relative to standby. Bundling Express with multi-night passes meant a large population of repeat attendees holding Express across many nights, which dilutes the product for everyone holding it.

Selling Express nightly gives Universal per-night control over how many Express passes exist on any given evening.

The less charitable read is straightforward revenue. Unbundling a product almost always increases total spend from the customers who still want it.

Both can be true simultaneously.

The Bottom Line

The HHN 35 Express Pass change discontinues all Fear with Express Pass products, meaning Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, and Ultimate Frequent Fear holders must now buy separate nightly Express Passes.

Standard single-night Express Passes are unaffected and remain available subject to availability.

Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs select nights August 28 through November 1, 2026 at Universal Studios Florida. Buy the multi-night pass for admission, go on weeknights early in the season, and save Express for the one or two nights where it genuinely earns its price.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
