Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom: Is the Project a Go?

Hey Disney vacationers, hold onto your Mickey ears because it looks like the magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom could be getting a whole lot more tropical! Walt Disney World has just dropped a hint that’s got all of us on the edge of our seats: a permit filing that whispers (well, practically shouts) the beginning of a major construction project within the theme park. And if the buzz is to be believed, we could be talking about the transformation of DinoLand USA into something straight out of a dream – the Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom. Yes, you read that right!

Now, for those who’ve been following the Disney grapevine, there’s been chatter about further developments in Animal Kingdom that Disney has kept under wraps. But this permit, folks, is our first solid peek into what’s coming. It details back-of-house improvements in a laydown yard that’s been the starting block for some of Disney’s most ambitious projects, including Pandora – The World of Avatar. This particular yard is cozily nestled north of Kali River Rapids, a stone’s throw away from DinoLand USA and Expedition Everest, and it’s gearing up for something big.

What’s really got tongues wagging is the permit’s mention of parking for four WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) trailers and a third-party contractor trailer. This setup is reminiscent of the early days of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, hinting at the scale and significance of the work ahead. The project area is also intriguingly close to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and Conservation Station, areas ripe with potential and surrounded by whispers of its own future transformations.

Publicly, they’ve only confirmed the DinoLand USA reimagining and a Zootopia-themed makeover for the “It’s Tough to Be A Bug” show. Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip.
