Construction on the Monsters Inc. Land Glob Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios just reached a major milestone. Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a third interior permit for the former MuppetVision 3D building — and the contractor named is one of Disney’s most trusted scenic fabrication partners.
The new Notice of Commencement names Adirondack Studios as the contractor, with a project description of “install set elements.” Add this to the two permits filed back in December 2024, and it’s clear that the interior of this building is well into its transformation into the Glob Theater.
What We Know About the Glob Theater Construction
- WDI filed a new Notice of Commencement naming Adirondack Studios for “install set elements”
- This is the third major interior permit for the former MuppetVision 3D building
- Two permits were filed in December 2024 — one for fabrication, one for A/V systems
- Exterior scaffolding is already visible on the front facade of the building
- Disney has not announced what show will replace MuppetVision 3D inside the Glob Theater
- The Glob Theater will sit next to the Monsters, Inc. flying door coaster
Who Is Adirondack Studios?
If you follow Disney construction news closely, you know Adirondack Studios. This is a long-time WDI vendor with a portfolio that reads like a list of the best Disney Parks additions of the past decade. They worked on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, Pandora – The World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, and Tokyo Disney’s Fantasy Springs.
Having Adirondack Studios on the Glob Theater confirms that Disney is bringing serious scenic production talent to this space. The “install set elements” description is consistent with the kind of immersive, detailed work this company does. This isn’t a paint-and-patch situation — they’re building something.
The Three Permits Tell the Story
Here’s how the interior buildout has progressed based on permits:
- December 2024 – Jon Richards Company: Custom theme park fabrication and physical set elements
- December 2024 – Solotech: Integrated audio, lighting, and video systems
- March 2026 – Adirondack Studios: Install set elements
The sequence makes sense: fabricate the pieces off-site, wire the building for tech, then bring the set elements in and install them. The Glob Theater is in the installation phase right now.
What Will the Glob Theater Show Be?
Disney has not made any announcement about what entertainment experience will replace MuppetVision 3D inside the Glob Theater. The building is part of the larger Monstropolis expansion at Hollywood Studios, which also includes a Monsters, Inc. flying door coaster. The two attractions will anchor the new land together.
The Glob Theater is a location from the Monsters, Inc. universe — a performance venue in Monstropolis. A live show or theatrical experience themed to the Monsters world fits the space perfectly, but Disney hasn’t confirmed anything officially yet. Given that scaffolding is up on the exterior and three interior permits have been filed, an announcement may not be far off.
What This Means for Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios
The pace of permitting here signals that the Monsters Inc. Land Glob Theater buildout is moving steadily. Interior scenic work is underway. The exterior is scaffolded. Construction partners are the same heavy hitters Disney uses for its biggest projects.
Monstropolis is shaping up to be one of the most significant expansions Hollywood Studios has seen since Galaxy’s Edge. Keep watching the permits — when Adirondack Studios finishes the install, we’re close to whatever comes next.
