For years, everyone assumed the third Dark Universe ride was a Creature from the Black Lagoon boat ride. That assumption is now in trouble.
The newest Bride of Frankenstein ride rumors point somewhere else entirely: an indoor roller coaster starring the Bride, not a water attraction starring the Gill-Man. And the reasoning behind the shift is more interesting than the usual fan guesswork, because it lines up with what Universal actually needs at Epic Universe right now.
Nothing is confirmed. Universal has not acknowledged this expansion at all, even with a pit dug and a pile driver running on the site. But the rumor has moved, the logic behind it holds up, and there is a specific ride system fans keep pointing at.
Here is what changed, what the speculation actually says, and why the Bride makes more sense than you might think.
Quick Summary
- The long-standing rumor was a Creature from the Black Lagoon boat ride.
- Newer Bride of Frankenstein ride rumors point to an indoor roller coaster instead.
- Fans speculate the ride could use a train similar to Revenge of the Mummy or Escape from Gringotts.
- The Gringotts-style trains can add a rotating motion, which helps dark ride storytelling.
- The likely goal is adding indoor ride capacity quickly.
- Gill-Man already appears on Monsters Unchained next door; the Bride does not yet appear on any Epic Universe ride.
- The Bride meet and greet and her merchandise have both performed well in the land.
- Universal has confirmed none of this.

Why the Creature Rumor Lasted So Long
The Creature from the Black Lagoon boat ride idea predates Epic Universe’s announcement. It made sense. A water attraction fits the character, and Universal had reserved this plot for a future ride from the very first Dark Universe site plans. Additionally, many people believed Universal was looking to use MACK Rides’ new Rocking Boat System, which is a combination of a flume and roller coaster.
But there is a problem with it now, and it is sitting right next door.
The Gill-Man already appears on Monsters Unchained, the land’s headliner. Giving a character a second starring role while other monsters have none is a harder sell internally than fans tend to assume.
The Bride Has No Ride Yet
The Bride of Frankenstein does not currently appear on any attraction at Epic Universe.
She does, however, have a meet and greet that has performed well for the land, and her merchandise has been popular with guests. That is a character with proven demand and no ride to put her in.
Now, the honest caveat: it is not clear whether those factors are genuinely driving the rumor or whether fans are working backward from merchandise sales to a conclusion they want. Popular character plus empty plot is exactly the kind of pattern that generates rumors whether or not anything real is behind it.
Treat the Bride rumor as better-reasoned than most, not as confirmed.
The Bride of Frankenstein Ride System Speculation
Here is the part that gives the rumor some teeth.
Some believe the attraction could use a ride train similar to Revenge of the Mummy or Escape from Gringotts at Universal Studios Florida. Both systems share a similar seating style, and Universal has years of operating experience with each.
The Gringotts trains are the more modern of the two, and they can add a rotating motion. That rotation is genuinely useful for dark ride storytelling, because it lets the vehicle point riders at whatever scene matters without changing the track layout.
An indoor coaster on a proven system is the kind of project a company builds when it wants a strong attraction without inventing new technology first. This is a more reliable option for Universal than choosing to move forward with MACK Rides’ Rocking Boat System, which has only been installed twice, with the latest in August 2026 at Dollywood. There is not enough data yet showing the overall reliability of the ride system. While Universal is known for pushing the limits on using the newest technology, move forward with a more reliable ride system is exactly what Epic Universe needs.
The Capacity Argument
This is the strongest practical case for an indoor coaster.
Epic Universe needs more indoor ride capacity, and it needs it reasonably fast. Indoor attractions keep operating through Florida weather that shuts outdoor rides down. They also absorb crowds during the hottest parts of the day.
An indoor coaster using a ride system Universal has already built and maintained checks every box: high capacity, weather-protected, and faster to deliver than a from-scratch water ride with a new vehicle design.
Permits describe a three-story structure with a ride maintenance bay on the first floor. A maintenance bay means vehicles that need servicing, which fits a coaster train fleet cleanly.
What Would Confirm It
Watch the permit filings for the building. Ride system vendors, track suppliers, and specialized subcontractors all eventually show up in paperwork, and that paperwork names the ride type long before Universal does.
Until one of those lands, the Bride of Frankenstein ride rumors stay rumors.
Final Thoughts
The Bride of Frankenstein ride rumors have overtaken the Creature from the Black Lagoon boat ride theory, and the reasoning behind the shift is reasonable. The Gill-Man already stars next door on Monsters Unchained. The Bride has proven popularity and no attraction. An indoor coaster on a Mummy or Gringotts-style system would give Epic Universe the sheltered capacity it needs without inventing anything new.
None of that is confirmation. Universal has not said a word about this expansion, even with excavation underway.
Keep watching the permits rather than the rumor mill. If work keeps moving at this pace, we may not be waiting long for a real answer.
