Piston Peak National Park is starting to move from dirt and concrete toward the fun stuff. A new Piston Peak permit at Magic Kingdom points to set elements going in at the Cars-themed land.
Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new Notice of Commencement for 4995 Caribbean Way. The contractor is Icarus Exhibits, and the scope is listed as “install set elements.” That’s a big hint that the land’s themed details, like rockwork, props, and show pieces, are on the way.
The address matters too. 4995 Caribbean Way was listed on the very first Piston Peak general construction permit filed last year, so this looks like a continuation of work at the same site.
Here’s what the permit tells us, where construction stands, and what we still don’t know.
Quick Summary
- New permit: WDI filed a Notice of Commencement for 4995 Caribbean Way.
- Contractor: Icarus Exhibits, a long-time Imagineering vendor.
- Scope: Install set elements.
- Same site: The address matches the first Piston Peak construction permit.
- Construction so far: Clearing, grading, retaining walls, foundations, and a tower crane in September.
- Attractions announced: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along.
- Opening date: Not announced.
What the Piston Peak Permit Shows
The permit was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering for 4995 Caribbean Way. That address still isn’t assigned in the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District database, but it has a direct connection to Piston Peak.
The scope, “install set elements,” is more specific than most permits. It tells us this work is about the themed environment, not plumbing or steel.
The contractor is Icarus Exhibits. They’ve worked on most major recent projects at Walt Disney World and specialize in:
- Themed environments
- Set fabrication
- Installation of show elements in attractions and lands
When Icarus shows up on a permit, it usually means the parts of a project you’ll actually see are getting closer.
Where Piston Peak Construction Stands
The Piston Peak site has made steady progress. Here’s the work so far:
- Site clearing and grading
- Retaining wall construction
- Foundation work
- A tower crane that arrived in September
General construction has been underway since last year, led by Balfour Beatty Construction LLC.
Recent photos show a concrete pump boom and tower crane at work, new retaining walls, and excavators near Liberty Square. The crane is visible over the Liberty Square area, and Cinderella Castle is in view from the site.
What’s Coming to Piston Peak National Park
Piston Peak National Park is the new Cars-themed land replacing the Rivers of America area at Magic Kingdom. Disney has revealed two attractions so far:
- Cars Ridge Run Rally
- Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along
Disney showed a scale model of the land at D23 in August 2026, giving fans their first good look at the layout. The theme leans into the great outdoors, with a national park setting that fits naturally next to Frontierland.
Disney hasn’t announced an opening date for the land.
For more on early testing at the site, see our post on the WDI video showing Piston Peak balloon tests.
Why Piston Peak Matters
Piston Peak is one of the biggest changes to Magic Kingdom in years. It brings the world of Cars to Walt Disney World’s most-visited park, adding new attractions that should help spread out crowds in Frontierland and Liberty Square.
It’s also a family-friendly land. Based on their names, the two announced attractions sound like a rally-style ride and a spinning ride, which suggests a land built for a wide range of ages. That makes it an easy add for families with kids who are too small for the park’s bigger coasters.
What Set Elements Could Mean
Set elements can cover a lot. In a land like Piston Peak, that could include:
- Rockwork and mountain facades for the national park setting
- Signage and props that tell the story of the land
- Show elements for the attractions themselves
The permit doesn’t specify which of these are included. But it’s a meaningful step from structural work toward the themed details.
What This Means for Your Magic Kingdom Visit
Right now, the work is behind construction walls. You’ll see the tower crane from Liberty Square and Frontierland, and possibly some construction noise during the day.
If you’re visiting soon:
- Look for the crane. It’s an easy way to see progress from inside the park.
- Expect walls. Walkways near the construction site may be narrower than usual.
- Plan for the future. Piston Peak won’t be open for your trip, so enjoy the rest of Frontierland and Liberty Square as they are today.
The Bottom Line
A new Piston Peak permit at Magic Kingdom names Icarus Exhibits to install set elements at 4995 Caribbean Way, the same address as the land’s first construction permit. It’s a sign the project is moving from structural work toward its themed details, following clearing, grading, retaining walls, foundations, and a tower crane in September. Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along are on the way, but Disney hasn’t announced an opening date. Keep checking DisMornings for the latest Piston Peak progress.
