Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’ve ever pulled into Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and felt like the entrance could use a little help… you’re not alone. After 50+ years of guiding cars, buses, and confused ride-share drivers through one main gate, Disney is finally making a big change.
This isn’t just a repaving job. The new Polynesian Resort main entrance will completely reroute how guests drive into the resort — and it’s all kicking off in May 2025.
Let’s break it down, plain and simple, so you know what’s changing, why it matters, and what to expect if you’re planning a stay, dining reservation, or DVC visit.

Disney’s Official Announcement
Here’s the direct statement from Walt Disney World confirming our May 2024 report:
“From May 2025 through 2026, some areas of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows are being refurbished. This work includes the reconfiguration of the front entrance roadway and bus area. While construction activity will be noticeable during daytime hours, efforts will be made to minimize disruptions.
All Resort dining, pools and amenities will remain available. Additionally, some views of the theme parks and other surrounding areas may be impacted. Please allow for extra travel time when arriving at or leaving the Resort.”
So… What’s Actually Changing?
Right now, the Polynesian’s entrance is a shared access point for buses, guests, deliveries, ride shares — you name it. That’s going away.
Here’s what’s coming:
- The current entrance will become bus-only.
- A new entrance road will be built off Seven Seas Drive, near its intersection with World Drive.
- A roundabout will guide cars to the new entrance.
- A new security guard gate will be placed along this new route.
- Valet operations are already being adjusted due to land clearing.
- Parking will be tighter during construction.
If you’ve been to the Polynesian lately, you may have already noticed land clearing happening near the porte cochere. That’s the prep work for this change.
Why the Change?
1. To Fix the Congestion Problem
Let’s be real — traffic backups at the Polynesian’s entrance aren’t rare. Especially during fireworks or big dining times. This new layout splits buses and personal vehicles, which should ease that pressure.
2. To Support the New DVC Island Tower
This is big. The new DVC Island Tower, opened back in December 2024, is bringing a lot more guests to the Polynesian. More guests mean more traffic — and the old entrance just can’t handle the volume long-term. Especially, with the increase of buses to manage the larger number of guests staying at the resort.
This reconfiguration helps absorb that guest growth by streamlining access and giving buses their own dedicated entry point.
What About Disney Transportation?
If you’re using Disney buses:
No problem. The new bus-only lane will keep them flowing faster, separate from regular guest vehicles.
If you’re using the monorail or boats:
No change. The monorail platform and boat dock remain open during this project. These forms of transportation don’t rely on the roadways being impacted.
If you’re using valet, ride-share, or personal car:
You’ll be rerouted to the new entrance once it opens. During the transition, allow a few extra minutes when entering or exiting.
What It Means for Disney Vacation Club Members
If you’re a DVC Member staying at the Polynesian — especially at the main resort DVC room — this change is a big deal. Here’s why:
- Easier access: The new road should make entering and exiting the resort smoother, especially during peak check-in/check-out times.
- Improved bus flow: Buses get their own dedicated path, meaning faster trips to and from the parks.
Will This Impact Your Stay?
Here’s the good news:
Pools, restaurants, rooms, and recreation areas remain open and operational throughout the project.
Here’s what you might notice:
- Construction during the day (visual, some noise)
- Shifted valet parking
- Possible roadwork near World Drive and Seven Seas Drive
- Temporary views of construction zones
So if you’re planning a stay between May 2025 and late 2026, just give yourself a little extra time when arriving or heading out.
Final Thoughts: A Necessary Move for the Next Era of the Polynesian
Change is always a little inconvenient — especially at a place as nostalgic and beloved as Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. But this new entrance isn’t just a facelift. It’s a full reroute that positions the resort for the future.
With more guests coming in thanks to the DVC Island Tower and the need for better traffic flow, the new Polynesian Resort main entrance is a smart, overdue move.
Keep your eye on this project as we head into 2025. And if you’re planning a trip — or helping others plan one — remember: it’s still the same beloved resort. Just with a new way to get in.
