Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’ve been waiting to swim right into the magic without the wait, Disney just made your wish come true. Starting September 11, 2025, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will officially join the Lightning Lane Multi Pass lineup at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
This update is huge for anyone planning their park strategy — especially for families with kids or fans of Ariel’s world. Here’s everything you need to know about the change, how to book it, and why it’s a great addition to your Lightning Lane plan.
When You Can Book
Guests staying at a Disney Resort Hotel (including Deluxe Villas) can book their Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections up to 7 days before their check-in date, for their entire stay (up to 14 days). Off-site guests can book 3 days in advance.
That means if you want The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure for September 11, Disney Resort guests can grab it as early as August 20, 2025 (if you’re staying 14 days), while off-site guests can start booking on September 8.
What’s New in The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure
This is not the same show you remember from years ago. The updated production, which debuted on May 27, 2025, blends live performers with advanced projection mapping, LED lighting, and updated sound for a richer experience. The set designs are brighter, the costuming is refreshed, and the underwater scenes are more immersive.
It’s still the story you know — Ariel longing for life above the sea — but now it feels bigger, bolder, and more connected to modern Disney stage technology. If you’ve been putting it off thinking it’s the “same old show,” this new version is worth a spot in your day.
Where It Fits in the Lightning Lane Lineup
When it joins Lightning Lane Multi Pass on September 11, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will be a tier two option at Hollywood Studios. Here’s the full updated tier list:
Tier 1 Attractions (Choose one per day in your first booking set):
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Tier 2 Attractions (Choose two per day in your first booking set):
- Tower of Terror
- Toy Story Mania
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Star Tours
- The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure
- Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage
- For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along
- Disney Junior Play & Dance
- Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
Why This Change Makes Sense
When MuppetVision 3D closed in June 2025 to make way for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land, Hollywood Studios lost one of its Lightning Lane Multi Pass options. Adding The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure fills that gap perfectly — especially since the theater already has a Lightning Lane entrance built into the queue.
Accessibility Information
Disney has confirmed that The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure theater offers:
- Wheelchair and ECV access with designated viewing areas.
- Companion seating next to accessible spots.
- Assistive Listening Devices available at the entrance.
These features make it one of the more accessible stage shows in the park, which can be a deciding factor when choosing Lightning Lane reservations for your group.
Should You Use a Lightning Lane on This Show?
If you’re visiting during peak holiday periods or on weekends, yes — Lightning Lane will help you secure better seating and avoid a long standby wait. On slower weekdays, you will more than likely be fine with standby, but if you have a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, you can make it one of your additional selections (after using your first three).
For first-time visitors, I’d prioritize this if you have kids who love Ariel or if you’re a fan of Disney stage productions. For repeat visitors, it’s worth seeing once for the tech upgrades, then deciding if it earns a regular spot in your rotation.
Bottom line: Starting September 11, 2025, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure becomes a smart, family-friendly addition to your Hollywood Studios Lightning Lane Multi Pass strategy — and it’s the perfect way to experience Disney magic without feeling like you’re stuck “under the sea” in standby.
