First Look Inside The Beak and Barrel

Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’re anything like me and have dreamed of sipping grog in a pirate hideout, Disney just made that dream a whole lot more real. Walt Disney Imagineering has officially shared a first look at The Beak and Barrel, a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge coming to Adventureland in Magic Kingdom — and it looks like nothing the park has ever offered before.

Let’s break down everything we know so far, including sneak peeks from Imagineering, who Captain Merry is, how Rummy the parrot ties to park history, and what to expect once the tavern opens in late 2025.

Quick Glance at The Beak and Barrel

  • Opening: Late 2025
  • Location: Adventureland, near Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Timed Experience: 45-minute visits expected
  • Theme: Pirate lounge with storytelling, animatronics, and specialty drinks
  • Lead Characters: Captain Merry Goldwyn and Rummy the parrot
  • Style: Immersive and theatrical — similar to Oga’s Cantina or Trader Sam’s

A Brand-New Experience for Magic Kingdom

Unlike EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom has never had a lounge like this. In fact, alcohol was only introduced to the park in recent years — and only in table-service restaurants. The Beak and Barrel marks a slow but significant shift in that trend.

If you’ve ever been to Oga’s Cantina at Hollywood Studios or Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, this feels like Disney’s next evolution of immersive, story-based bar experiences. It’s a lounge more focused on deep immersive storytelling, where animatronics, theatrics, and environment take center stage over the drinks.

But don’t get me wrong — the drinks are sure to be rum-tastic as well.

Inside Look from Walt Disney Imagineering

Walt Disney Imagineering recently released a behind-the-scenes video, giving fans a fresh glimpse inside the lounge. This is the second update from the team, with the first coming back in March 2025. That earlier update focused more on construction and creative vision. This time, though, we’re getting into the story details — and it’s good.

The Captains’ Booths

The first stop is the Captains’ Quarters, where guests will find booths themed to different pirate lords. These are individual seating areas carved by hand, each telling a unique backstory through props, lighting, and artwork.

“Each one of the booths in the captain’s quarters tells a different story about all the pirate lords,” an Imagineer explains in the video.

This kind of storytelling design is classic Disney — pulling you into the world through every inch of the space.

The Mapmaker’s Room

Next, the camera pans into the Mapmaker’s Room, a tucked-away chamber just left of the main bar. The walls here show visible cannonball damage. According to the story, pirates had to blast their way in after it had been sealed. Some of the cannonballs are still lodged in the stonework. It’s wild.

This room feels like one of those hidden treasures you’ll be talking about for the rest of your trip.

The Bar Feature

The video closes with a quick look at the main bar, described as the “feature of the space.” While it’s still under construction, you can already see the bones of something epic — complete with glowing bottles, mysterious artifacts, and maybe even some magical touches.

Meet the Stars: Captain Merry and Rummy

The lounge is run by Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, a retired pirate rumrunner who swapped the seas for stories and spirits. She’s bold, charming, and carries that Jack Sparrow-style swagger — without the chaos.

Joining her is Rummy, a talking parrot animatronic who perches at the bar. If he looks familiar, it’s because he’s a tribute to the original Barker Bird from the entrance of the classic Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

This is the same level of fan-service genius that gave us DJ Rex at Oga’s Cantina — a nod to Star Tours — and it shows Disney is keeping the deep cuts alive.

Rummy isn’t just decor either. He’s rumored to interact with guests, lead toasts, and tell stories from his and Merry’s pirate past.

Step Inside The Mess

The Mess is the lounge’s largest room. Originally built as a mess hall for Spanish soldiers, it’s now fully pirate-occupied. Picture long wooden tables, flickering candlelight, and constant chatter.

The bar here is made from the wreckage of a cursed ship, featuring a skull-shaped stern that dispenses grog and specialty brews. Tucked behind it? The Enchanted Rum Bottle, said to be gifted by none other than Tia Dalma — and possibly the source of the tavern’s magical concoctions.

And yes — Rummy may roam this room too, jumping into conversations and stirring up just enough trouble.

Back to the Captains’ Quarters

For a more intimate setting, guests can settle into the Captains’ Quarters. Once the office of a Spanish commander, it’s now full of pirate flair. You’ll spot slash marks in artwork, scorch marks on the walls, and ships in bottles above the fireplace.

According to legend, those miniature ships represent a global pirate alliance formed to stand against tyranny — and they may even move if you watch closely.

This space feels perfect for quieter moments or small group celebrations.

What to Expect: Reservations, Time Limits, and Drink Rules?

Here’s what we expect based on Disney’s pattern with similar experiences:

  • Reservations will likely be required — especially when it first opens, and during holidays and weekends.
  • Time inside may be capped at 45 minutes per party to help manage capacity.
  • Drink limits of two beverages per guest may apply, just like Oga’s Cantina.

None of this is confirmed yet, but don’t be surprised if these guidelines are in place when it opens.

Final Thoughts: Why The Beak and Barrel Matters

From a fan perspective — this is a big deal.

Magic Kingdom has always been the most “classic” Disney park. The addition of a story-driven lounge that serves alcohol and features rich theming, interactive characters, and nods to park history marks a major step forward.

The Beak and Barrel isn’t just a place to grab a drink. It’s an experience.

For those of us who love the immersive environments of Oga’s Cantina or Trader Sam’s, this lounge feels like a long-awaited addition to Magic Kingdom — one that brings new energy and imagination to Adventureland.

I’ll be keeping a close eye as we get closer to the opening in late 2025. And yes — I’ll be first in line for that enchanted rum.
