If you have a stay booked at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge — or you’re planning one — there are some construction impacts you’ll want to know about. The resort is undergoing a broader exterior refurbishment that will bring construction activity and some temporary disruptions through late 2026. Here’s the full rundown on what to expect.
What’s Being Refurbished
The refurbishment covers the exterior of both Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. One of the specific projects is an expansion of the security kiosk at the entrance to the resort. That work runs from late March through mid-October 2026.
The entrance stays open throughout the refurbishment period, but lane closures are possible at times. Disney advises guests to expect to see and hear construction during daytime hours, and views in some areas around the resort may be temporarily affected. The good news is that most resort amenities will remain available during the work.
Boat Dock Closure: Plan Accordingly
The bigger impact for guests will be the temporary closure of the resort’s boat dock. From April 13 through late July 2026, the dock will undergo routine maintenance and be closed to guests. More significantly, boat transportation to and from Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will be fully suspended from April 13 through May 1.
For guests who love the scenic boat ride to Magic Kingdom, this is worth factoring in. If you’re staying at Wilderness Lodge between April 13 and May 1, you’ll need to use bus transportation to reach the parks instead. The bus connection still works well — it’s just not the same vibe as arriving at Magic Kingdom by boat, and it does add some time to your transit.
Should This Change Your Plans?
Wilderness Lodge is one of the most beautiful resorts at Walt Disney World — the soaring log architecture, the hot spring feature in the lobby, the amazing theming throughout — and none of that is going anywhere. A construction zone around the entrance and the loss of boat service during part of the stay isn’t ideal, but it’s a relatively minor inconvenience for most guests.
If boat service is a big part of your Wilderness Lodge experience, you might consider booking for late July 2026 or beyond when the dock maintenance is expected to wrap up. If your dates fall between mid-April and May 1 and the boat ride is a priority, it might be worth looking at whether date flexibility is an option.
For everyone else, the exterior refurbishment is the kind of maintenance work that the resort will look great for when it’s done. We’ll keep an eye on this and update if the timeline changes or additional impacts are announced.
