Disney just dropped the first real look at the pool complex coming to Disney Lakeshore Lodge, and it might be the most ambitious resort recreation area Disney has built in years. Three new renderings reveal The Wetlands, the outdoor recreation area at this new waterfront resort projected to open at Walt Disney World Resort in summer 2027.
If you have been waiting for details beyond the initial resort announcement, this is the first time Disney has shown off the pool, lazy river, and kids’ water play areas up close.
Quick Summary
- Disney revealed first details and concept art for The Wetlands, the outdoor recreation area at Disney Lakeshore Lodge
- Lakeside Lagoon is the resort’s zero-entry feature pool with a treehouse-style waterslide tower
- Daydream River is the resort’s lazy river, one of very few across all Walt Disney World resort hotels
- Heron Shores and Otter Springs are dedicated children’s play areas tied to Pocahontas
- Perspective Pond offers a quieter leisure pool with Magic Kingdom fireworks views
- Disney Lakeshore Lodge is projected to open in summer 2027
What Is The Wetlands?
The Wetlands is the resort’s main outdoor recreation area, located just beyond the lobby and surrounded by the Bay Lake landscape. It’s designed to balance family fun with quieter relaxation, and it carries the nature-inspired storytelling of Disney Lakeshore Lodge through every corner of the space.
Lakeside Lagoon
At the center of The Wetlands sits Lakeside Lagoon, the resort’s zero-entry feature pool. The rendering shows a wide, open pool with a zero-entry beach-style entry, a spiral waterslide built into a treehouse-style tower, and a poolside bar and lounge area. This is the social hub of the recreation area, designed for guests of all ages.
Daydream River
Wrapping through the recreation area is Daydream River, the resort’s lazy river. The concept art shows guests floating on tubes past oversized nature-themed structures, including towering cattails, stylized dragonflies, and wetlands-inspired scenery. It’s one of very few lazy rivers across all Walt Disney World resort hotels, which makes this a real standout amenity for a deluxe resort.
Heron Shores and Otter Springs
Two dedicated children’s play areas bring the Pocahontas connection to life. Heron Shores offers dry and wet climbing features for exploration, while Otter Springs is an interactive water play zone with splash features and slides for younger kids. Both areas draw from the lyrics “the heron and the otter are my friends” from Colors of the Wind, tying the play areas directly to the film that inspired this resort.
Perspective Pond
On the opposite side of the resort, Perspective Pond offers a quieter option, a leisure pool and whirlpool spa positioned for evening views of Magic Kingdom park fireworks over Bay Lake. If the lazy river and main pool area sound like too much energy for your trip, this is where you will want to post up instead.
A Nod to the Past
Disney has confirmed a special plaque will be placed in The Wetlands to honor a historic attraction that previously occupied this site, most likely a reference to Disney’s River Country, Walt Disney World’s original water park, which operated here from 1976 to 2001. It’s a nice touch for longtime fans who remember River Country before it closed.
On-Site Benefits
As a Walt Disney World resort hotel, Disney Lakeshore Lodge guests will have access to complimentary transportation across property and early theme park entry. Magic Kingdom is a short boat ride away directly from the resort, which makes this a strong option if Magic Kingdom is the priority for your trip.
When Will Disney Lakeshore Lodge Open?
Disney Lakeshore Lodge is projected to open at Walt Disney World Resort in summer 2027. More details on dining and additional amenities are still to come, so this is just the first real glimpse at what guests can expect once the resort opens its doors.
How The Wetlands Compares to Other Resort Pools
Most Walt Disney World deluxe resorts get one strong feature pool and call it done. The Wetlands stacks four distinct areas into a single recreation zone: a zero-entry social pool, a themed lazy river, two separate kids’ play zones, and a quiet adult-focused leisure pool. That kind of range usually only shows up at resorts built specifically around a water park concept, which makes Disney Lakeshore Lodge stand out even before it opens.
If you’ve stayed at resorts like Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, you know how valuable a lazy river actually is on a hot Florida afternoon when you want to relax without supervising kids on a slide. Daydream River gives Disney Lakeshore Lodge that same advantage, and the nature theming through cattails and dragonflies should make it feel distinct from the lazy rivers at other resorts.
Planning Ahead for a 2027 Stay
Since Disney Lakeshore Lodge won’t open until summer 2027, there’s no booking window live yet, and Disney has not released room rates, room types, or a full amenities list beyond what’s shown here. If this resort is on your radar, the smart move right now is just bookmarking it and checking back as Disney shares dining and amenity details over the coming months.
Given the size and ambition of The Wetlands alone, expect this resort to draw a lot of attention once booking opens, especially from guests who want that boat ride to Magic Kingdom without paying monorail resort prices.
Final Thoughts on The Wetlands at Disney Lakeshore Lodge
Between Lakeside Lagoon, Daydream River, and the two themed kids’ areas, The Wetlands looks like it is shaping up to be one of the most elaborate pool complexes at any Walt Disney World resort. If you are already planning a 2027 trip, this is a resort worth keeping on your radar.
