What is the Disney Double Rider Queue?

You’re probably familiar with the Single Rider queue at popular Disney attractions. The Disney Double Rider queue works in a similar way, but it allows two guests to ride together, even if they’re not in the same party when they first enter the queue. To use this new option, you simply join the Single Rider queue and inform the Cast Member at the merge point that you’re traveling as a pair. That’s it!

While Single Riders are still welcome in the queue, the Double Rider option is perfect for smaller groups of two. For larger parties, this queue limits merging to pairs only when combining with the regular line. If you’re ok breaking up your group into parties of two, then this could be a good options for you.

How Does It Work?

Physically, the setup of the attraction hasn’t changed. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run still has its regular standby queue, Lightning Lane queue, and Single Rider queue. The main difference is that Cast Members will now inform guests at the entrance about the new Double Rider option.

To access this queue, head to the left side of the entrance where you’ll find the signage for the Single Rider line. Though the queue isn’t as immersive as the regular standby line, it’s still themed and functional. After walking down a hallway, you’ll reach a point where you’ll have to decide: left or right. Both paths lead to the same ride experience, but they lead to different loading areas. Keep in mind that both routes include two flights of stairs.

Why the Double Rider Queue?

So, why is Disney rolling out this new option? The short answer is efficiency. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run often uses Single Riders to fill empty spots in the six-seat ride vehicle. However, not every guest is willing to split up from their group. The Disney Double Rider queue allows smaller parties—like a parent and child or two friends—to get on the ride faster without having to separate.

This system helps smooth out the flow of guests, particularly during busy times, and ensures that the ride runs at full capacity. If you’re part of a small group and want to stay together while cutting down on wait time, the Double Rider queue could be your best bet.

The Drawbacks: What You Should Know

While the Double Rider queue sounds like a great option, there are a few things to keep in mind. The main downside to using the Single Rider (and now Double Rider) queue is that the chances of being assigned a pilot or gunner seat are slim. Instead, you’ll most likely find yourself in the Engineer seat, which doesn’t offer the same interactive experience.

As an Engineer, your role on the ride is more passive—you’ll be pressing a few buttons when the Falcon takes damage or during certain story moments. You won’t be piloting the ship or firing at enemies. But, hey, at least you’ll get to experience the ride without the long wait!

Will the Double Rider Queue Be Available Every Day?

At the moment, it’s unclear whether the Disney Double Rider queue will be available every day. Disney has not yet specified if this option will be offered on a regular basis or only during peak times, such as the busy period following New Year’s or during major events like the runDisney Marathon Weekend, which starts on January 8, 2025.
