Hey Disney Vacationers! Big news if you’re planning a stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge soon—Walt Disney World has confirmed that a full Animal Kingdom Lodge room refurbishment is on the way, covering both Kidani Village and Jambo House.
If you’re a Disney Vacation Club Member (like me) or just someone who loves staying close to the animals, here’s everything you need to know.
What’s Happening and When
Starting in October 2025, Disney will begin refurbishing the Kidani Village guest rooms. That project is expected to run through May 2026. As soon as Kidani wraps up, work will shift to Jambo House, with that refurbishment beginning in May 2026 and continuing until January 2027.
Here’s Disney’s official statement on the project:
“From October 2025 through May 2026, Guest rooms at Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will undergo refurbishment, followed by refurbishment work at Jambo House from May 2026 through January 2027. During these times, Guests may see or hear construction work in the area. All amenities will remain available throughout the refurbishment.”
So yes—there will be construction noise. But the pools, restaurants, and animal viewing areas will all remain open.
What Kind of Refurbishment Is It?
This isn’t just a quick update. Disney is doing what’s known as a hard goods refurbishment—also called a “full” refurbishment.
Let’s break down what that means.
Two Types of Refurbishment at DVC Resorts
Disney Vacation Club properties, including Animal Kingdom Lodge, follow a set refurbishment schedule:
- Refresh (Soft Goods): Happens about every 7 years. Includes updates to carpets, curtains, upholstery, linens, and some décor.
- Full (Hard Goods): Occurs about every 14 years. This is a major renovation that includes replacing furniture, updating kitchens and bathrooms, swapping appliances, and more.
The upcoming Animal Kingdom Lodge room refurbishment is a full renovation. Expect major changes to the look, feel, and function of the rooms at both Kidani Village and Jambo House.
Why It’s Happening Now
Both sections of Animal Kingdom Lodge are due for their full update based on Disney Vacation Club’s renovation cycle. DVC guidelines schedule alternating soft and hard goods refurbishments every seven years. Kidani opened in 2009 and Jambo House’s DVC villas launched in 2007—so it’s time.
Will You Get a Refurbished Room?
During the project, there’s always a chance you might be assigned to a room that hasn’t been renovated yet. Disney typically doesn’t guarantee a refurbished room unless the work is fully completed for the entire building or section.
If having a refreshed room matters to you, check the schedule and try to book dates after your building’s renovation is complete. That’s your best bet.
