The Story of Walt Disney’s Gulfstream
Walt Disney’s Gulfstream, nicknamed “Mickey Mouse One,” was his personal aircraft through the 1960s. Walt used it to fly Imagineers and designers around while they worked on films and park attractions.
The plane even played a role in Pirates of the Caribbean. In 1964, Walt flew it from Palm Springs to Puerto Rico to scout the Castillo de San Felipe del Morro, which helped shape the look of the attraction that opened in 1967.
The plane was retired in 1992 and sat on display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios until 2016. Plenty of longtime Walt Disney World fans remember seeing it on the backlot. In 2022, it arrived at the Palm Springs Air Museum on long-term loan from Disney, and the museum has been working to restore the interior to match how it looked when Walt flew it.
What’s Inside the Plane
The Gulfstream was built for work as much as comfort. Inside, you’ll find:
- A galley kitchen
- Two restrooms
- Lounge-style couches
- A desk workspace
Even the small details got the Disney touch. The custom stationery and matchbooks on board carried subtle Mickey Mouse imagery.
The plane also logged a lot of miles:
- Range: 2,540 miles
- Cruising speed: 350 mph
- Passengers carried: roughly 83,000
- Miles flown: 277,282
What You Get on the Tour
Each interior tour evening includes:
- A guided walkthrough of the restored interior
- Light refreshments

- A limited-edition T-shirt available for purchase, unique to each event
Space is limited at every event, and these tours sell out.

Upcoming Walt Disney’s Gulfstream Tour Dates
- Saturday, January 16, 2027: Becky Cline, Director of the Walt Disney Archives and a founding contributor to D23
- Saturday, February 20, 2027: A Walt Disney Archives team member
- Saturday, March 6, 2027: Bob Gurr, Disney Legend and Imagineer

Why the Bob Gurr Date Is the One to Book
Bob Gurr’s appearance on March 6 is the standout. Gurr was part of the original Disneyland design team and built some of the park’s most iconic ride systems, including the Disneyland Monorail and the Autopia cars.
He’s one of the few people still sharing firsthand stories about working directly with Walt. If you’ve ever wanted to hear those stories in person, sitting inside Walt’s own plane is about as fitting a setting as it gets. Expect this date to sell out first.
Can’t Make a Tour?
If none of the dates work for you, you can still see a piece of the story. The Walt Disney Archives display, featuring Walt’s personal artifacts from the plane, is open during regular museum hours and included with admission.
The Palm Springs Air Museum is located at 745 North Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs and is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Tips for Planning Your Visit
- Book early. Space is limited, and the Bob Gurr date in particular is likely to go fast.
- Make a day of it. Visit the museum during regular hours, then stay for the evening tour.
- Bring cash or a card for the T-shirt. Each event has its own limited-edition shirt, and they won’t be available later.
- Pair it with a Disneyland trip. Palm Springs is a manageable drive from the Anaheim area, so this can work as a side trip if you’re visiting Southern California.
The Bottom Line
Walt Disney’s Gulfstream is now open for public interior tours at the Palm Springs Air Museum, no D23 membership required. Tickets are $65, or $50 for museum members, and dates run from January through April 2027. The March 6 tour with Bob Gurr is the one to grab if you can. If you’re a Disney history fan, this is a rare chance to stand inside the plane Walt used to build his parks.
