Universal theme parks profit took a real hit this summer, and if you’re planning an Orlando trip, that’s not entirely bad news for you. Comcast reported its third-quarter 2026 results on Thursday, October 22, and the Theme Parks segment, which includes Universal Orlando Resort, went backward. Revenue fell 4.4% to $2.6 billion. Adjusted EBITDA, Comcast’s main profit measure, dropped 17.1% to $780 million, down $160 million from a year ago.

The reason is simple. Comcast says lower park admissions revenue drove the drop, including the cost of more promotions. In other words, Universal has been discounting to get people through the gates, and it’s showing up in the numbers.

Management calls this temporary. It expects the parks to return to growth in the second half of 2027. Until then, more deals are coming, and that’s the part that matters most for your next trip. Here’s what Comcast reported, what it said on the call, and what it means for you.

Quick Summary

  • Comcast’s Theme Parks revenue fell 4.4% to $2.6 billion in Q3 2026 (July through September).
  • Adjusted EBITDA dropped 17.1% to $780 million, down from $940 million a year ago.
  • Comcast blames lower park admissions revenue, including the impact of increased promotions.
  • Universal Orlando and Universal Japan are named as the main sources of pressure.
  • Comcast expects Orlando softness to continue into the first half of 2027, with growth returning in the second half.
  • More promotions and packages are coming, including three-park passes.

Universal Theme Parks Profit by the Numbers

Comcast’s third quarter covers July through September 2026. Here’s how the Theme Parks segment compared with the same period last year:

  • Revenue: $2.6 billion, down from $2.7 billion (a $120 million drop, or 4.4%)
  • Adjusted EBITDA: $780 million, down from $940 million (a $160 million drop, or 17.1%)
  • Operating expenses: $1.8 billion, up 2.3%, or about $40 million

That last line is the key. Revenue went down while costs went up. Comcast says the higher costs mostly came from its domestic parks, partly offset by lower costs at its international parks. Put those two together, and a 4.4% revenue dip turns into a 17.1% profit drop.

Why Admissions Revenue Fell

Comcast says Theme Parks revenue decreased primarily because of lower park admissions revenue, including the impact of increased promotional activity. It doesn’t say which promotions it means, and it doesn’t break out whether fewer people visited, people paid less per ticket, or both.

You’ve probably seen the deals. Universal Orlando has rolled out a steady stream of Florida resident and multi-day ticket offers since Epic Universe opened. One recent example is a 3-park Florida resident ticket that includes Epic Universe for $85 per day, which went on sale September 3.

Comcast also names Universal Orlando and Universal Japan as ongoing sources of pressure. Because Epic Universe opened in 2025, last year’s quarter already included the new park, so this isn’t just a tough comparison against a pre-Epic baseline. Comcast reports theme parks as one segment, so it doesn’t say how much of the drop came from each destination.

What Comcast Said on the Earnings Call

Comcast’s co-CEOs, Brian L. Roberts and Mike Cavanagh, said, “Despite near-term cyclical headwinds in Theme Parks, we remain confident in the business’s long-term growth potential.”

On the call, management pointed to a few causes:

  • Macroeconomic and geopolitical headwinds
  • Competitors that spotted softer demand sooner and adjusted their marketing faster
  • Capacity and ride throughput challenges at Epic Universe

Comcast says it’s acting on the last two. It expects Orlando softness to look similar next quarter and through the first half of 2027, then strengthen, with growth returning in the second half of 2027. It also says Orlando attendance, guest spending, and overall financial performance remain well above where they were two years ago, and guest satisfaction keeps rising.

Universal’s Plan to Turn It Around

Comcast laid out a few moves:

  • New leadership: Luc Bondar, who joined from United Airlines, recently started as Chief Brand and Commercial Officer. Randy Culbertson, the former NBCUniversal CFO, will join Universal Destinations & Experiences as Chief Business Officer.
  • More promotions and packages: Including three-park passes.
  • More marketing: Comcast is adding media investment.
  • Epic Universe fixes: Work on capacity and attraction reliability.

What This Means for Your Universal Orlando Trip

Here’s the honest takeaway. When a park operator tells investors it plans to bring more promotional packages to market, it usually means more deals for guests. If you’re flexible, that’s an opportunity.

  • Watch for new ticket offers. Comcast specifically mentioned three-park passes, so keep an eye out for new multi-park deals, especially for Florida residents.
  • Don’t book at full price too early. If your dates are flexible, it may be worth waiting a few weeks to see what new offers appear.
  • Expect Epic Universe improvements. Capacity and reliability are on Comcast’s list, which could mean shorter waits and fewer breakdowns over time. There’s no timeline yet, though.

How Disney’s Latest Results Compare

Disney’s most recent results cover a different period, its fiscal third quarter from April through June, so this isn’t a direct comparison. Disney Experiences revenue rose 10% to about $10 billion, and segment operating income rose 20% to $3.0 billion. Domestic park attendance grew 3%, and per capita spending grew 4%. We covered those Walt Disney World Q3 2026 results in August.

Disney reports the quarter that overlaps Comcast’s July through September period on November 17.

The Bottom Line

Universal theme parks profit fell 17.1% in Q3 2026, with revenue down 4.4% as promotions cut into admissions revenue and costs rose. Comcast calls the slowdown temporary and expects growth to return in the second half of 2027. In the meantime, it’s leaning into new leadership, more marketing, Epic Universe fixes, and more promotions, including three-park passes. For you, that likely means better deals ahead. If you’re planning a Universal Orlando trip, stay flexible, watch for new ticket offers, and don’t lock in full price until you’ve seen what’s coming.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
