Lost Continent Demolition Update: Almost Nothing Left

Reading Time: 4 minutes
Lost Continent Demolition

Poseidon’s Fury is basically gone.

The Lost Continent demolition at Islands of Adventure has reached the stage where there is nothing dramatic left to knock down. What remains of the attraction is a small circle of concrete in the middle of a debris field. That slab is the foundation of the final chamber, the room where the walkthrough show ended with screens of water, fire, and effects converging to close out the story.

Now it is a torn-up graveyard with a hole in the middle where you can see straight down into the basement below the old stage.

If you are hoping this land stays empty, stop hoping. Universal is not clearing acres of theme park for a lawn.

Quick Summary

  • Only a small central concrete foundation remains from Poseidon’s Fury.
  • Below-grade openings are visible on site, many covered and labeled “HOLE” in paint.
  • The water features in front of the former temple have been completely filled in with orange fill.
  • A new bypass pathway has been poured in front of Mythos to keep guests moving as demolition continues.
  • The shuttered Treasures of Poseidon gift shop is next in line to come down.
  • Temporary trailers near the former Eighth Voyage of Sindbad site will become the park’s new health services building.
  • Mythos servers say the restaurant is slated to close in March, though Universal has only confirmed 2027.
  • Many fans believe Pokemon is coming to this land, with no official announcement.

What Is Left of Poseidon’s Fury

The remaining concrete circle sits where the finale chamber stood. That is the room where the show’s water screens, fire effects, and projections came together for the payoff.

Debris piles surround it. A view into the basement level beneath the old stage is still open, waiting for the rest to be dug up and carted out.

Nearby, additional openings lead down to the below-grade level. Many have temporary covers so crews do not fall in during the work, and several are labeled with the word “HOLE” painted directly on them. That is about as blunt as construction signage gets.

The Water Features Are Filled In

In front of the former temple, the water features that defined this stretch of pathway are gone entirely.

Crews laid down orange fill and flattened it out. That is standard land preparation for future vertical construction. When you see fill graded flat, something is going on top of it eventually.

The New Bypass Pathway

Across from that site, directly in front of the Mythos restaurant, a new bypass pathway has been poured.

It is still surrounded by work walls for now. Once it opens, guests will use it to move through the area, which lets Universal push demolition further without cutting off circulation. The shuttered Treasures of Poseidon gift shop is on the list of structures that come down next.

This is the pattern to watch during the Lost Continent demolition. Universal pours a new path, opens it, moves the work walls, then removes another building.

Health Services Is Relocating

Deeper into the land, new portable trailers have been set up and connected in the empty lot near the former site of The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad.

That temporary trailer structure becomes the park’s new health services building while the area gets prepped. The original health services and first aid building will be demolished, and the emergency access road that served it is being moved. A new permanent health services building is expected to be constructed later.

This part matters more than it sounds. Relocating first aid and rerouting an emergency access road frees up a large connected block of space in the center of the area. You do not go through that trouble for a small project.

The Pokemon Rumor

Many fans believe this land is being replaced with Pokemon. Universal has made no official announcement, which is entirely in character for this resort.

What is confirmed is the scale of the clearing. Two attractions demolished, a gift shop next, first aid moved, an access road rerouted, and land graded flat. That is a full land replacement, not a refresh.

Mythos Has a Closing Date Rumor

Mythos is still open, and you can still eat there through the end of the year.

Servers at the fan-favorite restaurant have said Mythos is slated to close in March of next year. Universal has only confirmed 2027 publicly.

Take the March date as a strong staff-level rumor rather than a booking guarantee. But if Mythos means something to you, do not wait until 2027 to get one more meal there. The gap between what servers are saying and what Universal has confirmed is exactly the kind of gap that closes in the wrong direction.

Final Thoughts

The Lost Continent demolition is in its final phase. Poseidon’s Fury is down to a concrete slab and a basement void, the water features are filled in, and a new bypass path is ready to let crews take out the Treasures of Poseidon gift shop next. Health services has moved into trailers so its old building can come down and the emergency access road can be rerouted.

All of that adds up to Universal clearing a large, connected central plot at Islands of Adventure. Pokemon is the popular guess. Nothing is official.

If Mythos is on your list, book it this year. Servers are pointing at March, and Universal has not argued them down.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

Our experience working with Nate as our Disney vacation planner was exceptional. He was responsive and thorough. He gave us insights that made the trip go much more smoothly. We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
