Lake Buena Vista Golf Course Is Closing

Golfers planning a round at Walt Disney World this summer have a scheduling conflict to be aware of: the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course closing 2026 is officially on the books. The course is set to shut down starting May 4, 2026, for what Disney is calling a major overhaul — and it won’t reopen until early fall.

Here’s everything you need to know about what’s changing, when it reopens, and which courses you can still play while Lake Buena Vista is under renovation.

Quick Summary

  • Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course will close on May 4, 2026
  • The course is expected to reopen in early fall 2026
  • Reservations are no longer available on or after May 4
  • Renovations will focus on greens, bunkers, chipping areas, and irrigation infrastructure
  • The Magnolia, Palm, and Oak Trail courses remain open throughout the closure

What Is the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course?

The Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is one of Walt Disney World’s on-property golf courses, and it’s one of the most recognizable ones — known for its tree-lined fairways and the unique experience of playing a round literally surrounded by the Disney bubble. It’s a par-72 course that appeals to both serious golfers and resort guests looking for a more leisurely round.

The course has been operating for over 50 years, so a significant overhaul is long overdue. This renovation appears to be a meaningful investment in the course’s long-term playability and quality.

What’s Being Renovated?

Disney has shared details on what the overhaul will actually involve. The work is focused on several key areas of the course:

Greens

The greens are the primary focus of the renovation. They’ll be completely rebuilt with new shaping, new contours, and elevation adjustments designed to improve both drainage and playability. Anyone who’s played the course knows that green quality can make or break a round, so this is a significant upgrade.

Bunkers and Chipping Areas

Bunkers and nearby chipping zones are being redesigned to create smoother transitions and more consistent playing conditions when approaching the putting surfaces. This should reduce some of the inconsistency that can come with older bunker designs.

Irrigation Infrastructure

New irrigation infrastructure is being installed around the greens to help maintain turf quality in high-traffic areas. Florida’s summer heat is brutal on turf, and better irrigation means better-conditioned greens year-round going forward.

When Will It Reopen?

Disney has said the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is expected to reopen in early fall 2026. No specific date has been given, but that puts the reopening window somewhere in the August to October range. Tee times and reservations will become available again once an official date is announced.

Other Disney Golf Courses Remain Open

The good news for golfers visiting Walt Disney World this summer is that Lake Buena Vista is the only course going offline. The Magnolia, Palm, and Oak Trail courses will all continue operating normally throughout the renovation period.

The Magnolia and Palm courses are both championship-level 18-hole courses, so there’s no shortage of quality golf to be played at Disney World even with Lake Buena Vista temporarily closed. Oak Trail is the shorter par-36 nine-hole course, which is great for families or golfers looking for a quicker round.

If you had tee times booked at Lake Buena Vista on or after May 4, you’ll want to make alternate arrangements. Check availability at the other Disney courses or contact Disney Golf directly to see about rescheduling options.
