Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Gets New Space Mountain-Style Marquee at Magic Kingdom

The new marquee at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is up at Magic Kingdom — and it’s a big upgrade from what was there before.

Photos from March 10, 2026 show the freshly installed signage, which takes its design cues directly from Space Mountain’s iconic white spire entrance. It’s a sleek, dramatic look — and a strong signal that the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin 2026 reopening is getting closer by the day. Here’s what the new marquee looks like and everything else we know about what’s coming when this ride reopens this spring.

Quick Summary

  • A new Space Mountain-style white spire marquee is now installed at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
  • Digital wait time boards for both standby and Lightning Lane hang beneath the main sign
  • Construction walls remain up while concrete flooring work is completed
  • The ride closed in August 2025 and is expected to reopen in spring 2026
  • Major updates include new scenes, handheld blasters, a new character named Buddy, and overhauled vehicles

The New Buzz Lightyear Marquee: What It Looks Like

The centerpiece of the new entrance is a tall white spire — the same architectural style as the beloved Space Mountain marquee. The main “Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin” sign is mounted on the spire itself, with digital standby and Lightning Lane wait time clocks hanging just beneath it.

As of the March 10 photos, the text on the main sign still needs to be added, but the structure is essentially complete. Construction walls still line the entrance area while Disney crews finish the new concrete flooring around the marquee base. This is very much a “final stretch” situation.

The white spire design is a significant visual upgrade from the original marquee. It ties the attraction’s entrance more cohesively into Tomorrowland’s aesthetic and gives it a presence befitting one of the most-played interactive attractions at Magic Kingdom.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin 2026 Reopening: What’s New Inside

The new marquee is the public-facing preview of a much bigger transformation happening inside. Buzz Lightyear closed in August 2025 for what Disney called a major update — and based on everything we know, it’s a significant overhaul of the entire experience.

New Opening Sequence and Character: Buddy

The opening sequence has been completely reworked to introduce Buddy, a new support robot created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar. Buddy serves as your guide into the Star Command mission, adding a new narrative layer to the pre-ride experience that didn’t exist before.

Hyperspace Tunnel Gets a Projection Upgrade

The hyperspace tunnel scene now features new projection technology that shows Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg — for the first time ever during the ride itself. If you’ve been on this attraction dozens of times, that moment alone is going to feel brand new.

Redesigned Vehicles and Handheld Blasters

Your ride vehicle gets the Star Command treatment — new styling with onboard screens displaying your real-time score as you go. More importantly, the old fixed blasters are gone. In their place: handheld blasters with vibration feedback, sound effects, and an always-on laser to help you track your shots.

This is a meaningful improvement. The fixed blasters on the original were a constant source of frustration — you had to torque your whole upper body to aim properly. Handheld changes everything about the strategy.

Reactive Targets Throughout

Interactive targets throughout the attraction now physically react and light up when hit, giving you immediate, clear feedback mid-ride. Combined with the always-on laser and real-time scoring display, this version of Buzz Lightyear is built for actual gameplay in a way the original never was.

When Does Buzz Lightyear Reopen?

Disney hasn’t announced a specific reopening date beyond “spring 2026.” With the new marquee now installed and construction focused on finishing touches like the concrete flooring, a reopening announcement feels close. We’d expect something within the next few weeks.

If you have a Magic Kingdom trip planned for spring 2026, keep an eye on the official Disney Parks announcements. This ride is going to be a must-do when it reopens — especially for families who want to see what WDI and Pixar built together with the new Buddy character and the gameplay improvements.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin 2026: What to Expect

The Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin 2026 reopening is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Magic Kingdom moments of the year. A new Space Mountain-style marquee, handheld blasters, a brand-new character, reactive targets, and overhauled ride vehicles — this isn’t just a refurbishment. It’s a meaningful upgrade to one of the most beloved interactive rides in the park.

We’ll keep this updated the moment Disney announces the official reopening date. In the meantime, start practicing your blaster aim — Emperor Zurg isn’t going to defeat himself.

I’m no stranger to Disney planning, as a Disneyland magic key holder and DVC member. I’m the person people ask for trip planning advice. But I had never been on a Disney cruise, and had heard great about Nate and decided to reach out. I’m so glad I did because we could not have been happier with our experience. His tips and insights were incredibly helpful, and he was incredibly responsive any time we had a question. Who do the Disney experts turn to when they need help? Nate, that’s who. We’ll definitely be using him again.

We were able to really relax and focus on quality time as a family and have so much fun doing it! I will definitely reach out for any future trips.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip. Nate was VERY responsive to emails and texts and more than willing to do whatever he could to guide us and answer our questions. On several occasions I emailed him over the weekend not expecting a response until Monday but each time he responded before the weekend was over. He even participated in a Zoom session with our group of five seniors as we planned our trip. He also helped us at the 11th hour when we added a family member to our travel group less than a month before our trip. Without a doubt, I will reach out to Nate when I'm ready to plan my next trip to Disney World!

We are so thankful we used Nate to plan not only our first Disney trip, but also our second. He made the process so easy for us, especially for us since it was our first time going. There was a lot to consider and many decisions to make, such as where to stay, when to go, and what to experience. Nate really helped us narrow down what we wanted to do overall, but he didn’t stop there. He provided detailed guides to help us navigate the airport and find our transportation to the resort, as well as a guide to explore the resorts and make sure we saw the best Christmas decorations. One of the many amazing things he also did was set up our dinner reservations for us. This saved us so much stress and allowed us to get some of our top choices. From the moment we landed in Orlando to the moment we headed back home, he made sure everything went smoothly. You truly can’t go wrong with going to him for your next trip.

Nathan has been an amazing trip planner for me! So helpful and responsive. I am a very type A person -- so someone who is even more on top of their game than me -- is so so appreciated! Nathan has booked 3 trips for me (1 completed 2 pending) and it was perfection. Thanks again!

Nate has helped us with our vacation planning for the last couple of years and we couldn't be happier with his service and expertise. We've used other travel agents in the past and none of them have done as phenomenal a job to make sure every detail is taken care of as he has. Switching to Nate was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He's always quick to answer questions and works tirelessly to make sure we get everything we want from our trips. Plus, he's just a genuinely great person who is wonderful to work with. Whether you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise, or any other vacation, Nate is the guy you want putting it all together! Five stars across the board!
