Permit for MuppetVision Building

Hey Disney Vacationers! If you’ve been wondering what’s next for the Muppet*Vision 3D building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’ve got news. Walt Disney Imagineering has officially filed a permit for the MuppetVision building, and that means big changes are finally in motion.

What the Permit Means

Disney filed a Notice of Commencement, which is Disney’s way of saying, “we’re getting ready to start real work.” This type of notice typically signals that physical construction is about to begin. In this case, the notice covers general construction on the former Muppet*Vision 3D building.

The permit lists PCL Construction Services as the contractor. PCL isn’t new to Disney or theme parks. In fact, they’ve worked on:

  • Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs
  • World of Disney at Disney Springs
  • Hogsmeade at Universal Islands of Adventure
  • SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Universal Studios Hollywood
  • Infinity Falls at SeaWorld Orlando
  • Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida

PCL is also listed as the contractor for the Stage 1 building demolition in Muppet Courtyard—another major signal that Disney is clearing the way for something new.

A Quick Recap: What Was Muppet*Vision 3D?

If you’re new to Disney or haven’t been to Hollywood Studios in a while, the Muppet*Vision 3D show was a long-running 3D movie attraction hosted by Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the whole Muppet crew. It was funny, quirky, and full of dad jokes. And, most notably the last thing Jim Henson worked on. The show opened in 1991 and remained mostly unchanged until it closed to make room for new development.

This building is now a key part of what will become Monstropolis—a new land based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.

What We Know So Far

The permit itself doesn’t spell out every detail. It simply covers “general construction,” which likely includes interior demolition, infrastructure work, and prepping the space for a new experience. The permit has a standard one-year expiration, meaning the project must start relatively soon.

This all connects back to Disney’s larger plan to transform the Grand Avenue area into a full Monsters, Inc. land. That includes:

  • Harryhausen’s Restaurant — a themed dining experience based on the sushi restaurant from the movie
  • The Glob Theater — replacing the former Muppet*Vision 3D theater with a brand-new show
  • A flying door roller coaster — the big thrill ride of the land, said to take place inside the iconic door warehouse

Disney has not yet given an official timeline or opening date for the new land, but with construction permits now filed and contractors assigned, the groundwork is clearly being laid. Early projections have the new land opening in 2026.

Why This Matters

This permit for the MuppetVision building is one of the clearest signs yet that the Monsters, Inc. land is moving forward. And it’s not just about one attraction—this is the start of a major refresh for this corner of Hollywood Studios.

If you’ve been holding out hope for more Pixar in the parks—or just want something new to explore—this is one to watch.
