“One of the cool things about Disney is how we can tell our stories in so many different formats,” Favreau said. “We’re already taking Mando and Grogu from the TV screen to the movie screen, and at the same time, [The Mandalorian executive producer] Dave [Filoni] and I are working with Asa to bring this story to the Disney parks, too.”

This is an experience only Disney can deliver—blending cutting-edge technology with beloved Star Wars storytelling. The update will launch alongside the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, both debuting on May 22, 2026.

“Opening an attraction and such a massive movie on the same day wouldn’t be possible without the relationships we have inside Disney,” Kalama added. “Jon and Dave have shared their story with us, and now we’ve all worked together to come up with a new mission for Smugglers Run that plays into this narrative.”

What Changes Are Coming?

The update promises an all-new mission for guests aboard the Millennium Falcon, bringing fresh excitement to the ride. Imagineers even captured scenes for the attraction on the set of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, ensuring an authentic and immersive experience.

“This isn’t going to retell what happens in the movie—it’s more like participating in something that’s happening just off-camera from what you see in the film,” Favreau explained.

As previously reported, according to Jim Hill of The Jim Media Network, this update will also introduce new enhancements, particularly for the engineer seat to make it more exciting. Here’s what’s rumored:

• Exclusive Grogu Encounters: Engineers will get unique moments with Grogu, adding an extra layer of interactivity.
• Grogu Animatronics in the Queue: Guests waiting in the standby line may see an animatronic Grogu at the Sabacc table, enhancing the pre-ride experience.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip.
