Universal Confirms Epic Universe Expansion Is in the Works

In a newly released hype video promoting why Universal Orlando Resort deserves your vacation dollars, Karen Irwin, President & COO of Universal Orlando Resort, confirmed what many of us suspected—Epic Universe isn’t stopping with what’s already been announced.

That’s right. Before the park even opens, Universal is already looking ahead.

Epic Universe Expansion Pads Are Ready to Go

Epic Universe will open with four themed lands branching out from the original Celestial Park hub. But the park was designed with growth in mind. Universal built multiple expansion pads into the park layout, giving them room to expand as needed.

There are at least four or five expansion pads mapped out, and each could be the home of a future attraction or even a whole new land. The Dark Universe expansion pad is highlighted in the picture. But Universal isn’t looking to rush anything. Epic Universe will open with a massive amount of attractions, dining, and entertainment, so there’s no immediate pressure to drop a new ride or land right away. They’re playing the long game, ensuring whatever comes next is a perfect fit.

What Could Be Coming in Epic Universe Phase Two?

So what’s next? Universal hasn’t confirmed anything specific, but strong rumors point toward some big possibilities.

1. Wizarding World of Harry Potter Expansion

The most solid rumor floating around? A second attraction for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. There’s already an expansion pad sitting next door to the existing Wizarding World in Epic Universe, and it was originally part of the Phase One plans. However, after the pandemic, Universal cut the attraction from the initial lineup. While the attraction details were never released, it was rumored to be a flying broom stick VR ride. Now, with Phase Two coming into focus, that ride could be back on the table.

2. Creature From the Black Lagoon – Dark Universe Expansion

Dark Universe is one of the most mysterious lands coming to Epic Universe, and it looks like it could grow even bigger. One of the strongest rumors suggests that Universal may be developing a Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction.

Why does this make sense? Because the story revolves around water. Think about the legendary JAWS ride Universal used to have—imagine that level of immersion but with a terrifying Black Lagoon setting. Universal Creative has a strong track record with water-based attractions, so this could be a perfect addition to the Dark Universe.

3. Luigi’s Mansion Dark Ride – SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Expansion

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is already one of the most anticipated lands at Epic Universe, but it may not stop there. Another big rumor? A Luigi’s Mansion dark ride.

Picture this: You step inside a haunted mansion and take control of a Poltergust ghost vacuum. This wouldn’t be your typical slow-moving dark ride. Think interactive shooter experience, combining elements of Men in Black: Alien Attack and Villain-Con Minion Blast. Nintendo fans have wanted a Luigi’s Mansion ride for years, and Universal might just deliver it.

4. More Surprises on the Horizon

Universal is known for pushing boundaries, and there could be other attractions or lands in development that haven’t even been hinted at yet. With Epic Universe’s massive scale and Universal’s aggressive expansion strategy, the next big thing might be something we haven’t even considered yet.

Could not have wanted or expected more from Nate, our Distrips and More agent as we planned our 2025 Disney World trip.
