Hey Disney Vacationers! Charbel Barakat is no longer serving as Vice Chair of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) board. His departure marks another leadership change within the state-appointed board. The district has already removed his name from its official website. Let’s see where everything stands after the Vice Chair resigns from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board.
Leadership Change in CFTOD
Barakat was appointed to the board by Governor Ron DeSantis on June 1, 2023, replacing Michael Sasso, who stepped down after less than four months. Now, less than two years later, Barakat’s role has also come to an end. The district has yet to announce a replacement for the vacant Vice Chair seat.
New Board Appointments
Two new members, John Gilbert and Scott Workman, have been appointed to the board. Both will serve terms expiring on February 26, 2027. Meanwhile, the Chair position remains open, with Alexis Yarbrough expected to take on the role, pending confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Bridget Ziegler and Ron Peri remain on the board despite their terms set to expire on February 26, 2025. The full updated board listing is as follows:
- Open – Chair (Presumed to be filled by Alexis Yarbrough) – Term expires 2/26/27
- Brian Aungst, Jr. – Term expires 2/26/27
- Ron Peri – Term expires 2/26/25
- Bridget Ziegler – Term expires 2/26/25
- John Gilbert – Term expires 2/26/27
- Scott Workman – Term expires 2/26/27
Ongoing Leadership Shifts
Barakat’s departure continues a pattern of turnover within the CFTOD, which took over governance responsibilities from the Reedy Creek Improvement District in 2023. The board, appointed by Governor DeSantis, oversees infrastructure and services within Walt Disney World property.
With both the Vice Chair and Chair positions currently open, the district’s leadership remains in transition. More updates are expected as new appointments are confirmed.
